Appologies if this is in the wrong place but I desperately need advice!!

Is my insurance company allowed to change by policy wording without me knowing?!

Basically I've had a courtesy car before but now they're saying I can't as my insurance doesn't cover it, they changed the wording a week or two ago!!

Dom

Realistically any changes *should* be agreed between you and your insurers but check your original policy wording - if they haven't put in something along the lines of "We will notify you in writing of any changes which may occur during the life of your policy" then your fairly well stuffed I think, might be worth asking somewhere like moneysavingexpert or similar.

"Any motor car which is loaned or hired to the policyholder under the insurethebox approved repair scheme or by a member of the motor trade while the vehicle specified above is in the custody of the motor trade for service, repair or MOT."

Does this mean:

a) They'll cover me on a car they loan to me under the approved repair scheme/ the member of the motor trade driving it if it goes in for service/repair/MOT?

or

b) They'll cover me on a car they loan to me under the approved repair scheme or a vehicle borrowed from a member of the motor trade while my car is if for service/repair/MOT?

W*****s.

Sorry, what I mean is they'll cover you on a loaned or hired vehicle while yours is in the care of the motor trade. But they won't loan or hire the car to you, to me it reads that the provision of a 'courtesy car' is dealt with separately by insurethebox (whoever they are) or by the garage undertaking the work on your vehicle.

should have used call fiat first, they will sort all this out for you. it might not be too late give them a call now http://www.callfiatfirst.co.uk/

OI! I haven't crashed it!

Exactly, they're saying it means b.

Just spoke to my legal person and I'm definately 100% right.

B, but only if one of their approved repairers, MOT places or service stations. Also doesnt say a car is included, you may have to pay for it, all that is included is insurance cover of said car. Is the above the new or old wording? Need to ask them for a list of their approved repairers / service stations / MOT stations I'd say :)

Okay, how I (and my Lawyer/legal lady) reads it is that I'm insured for a car they lend me if my car is with them under their 'Approved Repair Scheme' and when my car is with the motor trade for service/repair/MOT.

Indeed correct, me bad, read it on my phone first of all. Like you say your policy wording would indicate they will cover you on a car given to you in any of those senarios (y)

Thanks.(y)

I think I've been on the phone to them for a few hours today and they just keep stating that my policy doesn't cover me to drive curtosy cars. They say they've confirmed this with the underwriters.

I'm going to call the underwriters in the morning to see what they think about it.

What do people suggest I do/say?

Got to be careful with the insurance cover on a courtesy car as well. OH found out (afterwards) that she was only covered to drive the courtesy car on third party (as in DoC clause !). Bit naughty really as she had to use said car for work (as it is a condition of her terms of employment - and the insurance company know this).

Yeah, it's just stupid that my certificate clearly states one thing and they're saying it means another.
