That's right, just insured my campervan!

file.php

fully comp, £100 excess, full UK & european breakdown cover, it's a motorhome policy so NCB isn't even asked for as they assume it's on your daily driver.

22 years old and it came in at £192 for the year :D

if you want cheap insurance get one of them LOL

How is the fuel consumption on this beast? ;)

26 plus, i've seen over 30mpg when it's sat on the motorway, but usually around 28mpg full of stuff, water etc. not bad since it's a 2 litre petrol, the diesels do around the same mpg, they're slower and diesel costs more, and they're a LOT noisier, the amount of times i've been told i should have got a diesel is unreal lol

got an lpg kit for £50 ready to go on, nice old fasion carb'd engine so setting it up is nice and easy :D

not being a daily driver the mpg isn't really an issue, can't beat driving up into scotland with a couple of mates for a few days and a load of beer :D

A nice mixer LPG system on a Carbed engine, you'll be lucky to get 18 mpg+ on that :p

How you going to get it UKLPG approved for insurance if you fit it yourself? How much insurnace quoted for it?

the lads on my site with the same van are getting 20-22ish with diy lpg kits.

UKLPG approval is easy, place near me will approve it for £50 and the insurance wont go up, i asked at my renewal :) i just need to tell them about it when it's done and they will want to see the UKLPG cert.

my uncle will be doing the welding for me, fitting the tank etc. (welder on the rigs) i can weld, just not as good as him lol

here's one of my member's websites, the section about LPG: http://www.jktowers.fsnet.co.uk/motorhome/lpg_conversion.htm

his does 16mpg on gas but it's a coachbuilt van not a van conversion like mine, coach builds are heavier and less aero dynamic.

should get the cost back on our trip to the isle of man with the bike's in tow this year :D

All sounds very good :)

Best mod I've had is my LPG conversion :D

You getting it plumbed in to heat water, internal cabin heating, and for cooking with also out of interest

i was even thnking of a diy kit on the punto, after doing an easier install on the van but all going well i'll be living abroad at the end of the year :D so it will be getting sold.

i did consider it, it would be easier for sure and gave me more space not to house a seperate gas bottle in the wardrobe, it's too much work for me, plus it'll cost more since you're paying duty on the lpg.

i got a full gas bottle with the van and it was used from november until the end of the year and it still feels the same weight, might get a smaller one for space and to save weight.

obviously the majour down side is a slight power loss in something that does 0-60 in 15 years and as aero dynamic as a barn door :p

@ Dave, 6k a year, i'll not even do half that i bet, i dare say i could have said 12k and it wouldn't have made much of a difference if any.

i'm not sure you really loose anymore power than you would over an injection engine, i just meant the slight power loss in general, not too concerned though, there's members on my site who run the same engine LPG'd on coach built vans over a tonne heavier than mine :O timed the 0-60 at around 28 seconds :p

Don't loose any power on a sequential Injection LPG system, you just use more fuel when you hit the go button instead (y)

ooh really? i always thought it was less bang for buck than petrol, i don't claim to know massive amounts about it so that's something learnt :p

It is, but with the injection ones it just shoves more in, so you get same power but use loads more fuel! All good unless cruising the 3 figure speeds and then almost works out cheaper to run on petrol with the amount of gas it drinks

Normally do Norwich to Preston on £20 of LPG, done the journey in 4.5 hours once (normally 6-7 at best) but ran out of gas 20 miles shy of Norwich as it took£27 :p

So it's good for the odd blast, or having the power still there when overtaking, but if regularly breaking land speed records it's not so good.

It's the less advanced, but easier to DIY, mixer units on carbs that loose power due to the way they're designed, hence some of these V8 Landy drivers not all liking LPG.

If on a lesiurly run though you'll be fine :)

I think I only pay £250 for my car insurance and it's only £30 a year to tax, and it does 60mpg' and its faster and doesn't seem like you're moving house every time you go to work.

However it is a cool van....I might be a bit jealous ;)

:D no chance i'd use it for work :ROFLMAO:

i planned on selling it this year but now i have a company van to run around in there's no point when it's that much to insure :D

beleive it or not, it's no longer than my dads MG ZT.

here's my MM thread on my forum: http://www.talbotoc.com/alex-s-talbot-express-t965.html (for anyone who's interested)

it's basically a fiat ducato as that and the talbot express are identical.
