Some while ago now, I started getting involved in some voluntary work which sometimes required me to use my own car to transport elderly folk.

Naturally I cleared this with my insurance broker first, and we were both pleasantly surprised to find that, far from being a problem, it actually reduced my premium by about 15%.

I don't know how many companies do something similar, but it's worth asking - there are plenty of opportunities for volunteer drivers and you'll be doing some good for your local community, too:).

may i ask which insurance company your with?

im not doubting you i just find it amazing that an insurance company would reduce your premium when your driving more

i might give my insurance company a ring coz i already drive people around voluntary

Indeed. I find my premiums can be all over the place dependant upon what I'm driving at the time - I can be a bus driver, coach driver, lorry driver but in the main they tend to stick me down as a minibus driver as the4 vehicle I drive is a 16 seater with adaptions to carry wheelchairs. It's 24' long and 8'4" wide - so nothing like any minibus I've ever driven but for some insurers it's cheaper to say minibus than bus

TBH, I think insurance companies don't have any hard and fast rules, I believe it's all made up on the spot using a set of dice.
