Insurance for a 1.2 Punto! help!

hi a dont no if a bit late but have u tryd coop young drivers insurence thats who am with and thay cheapist av seen down fall is u have to have a smart box put in to show u not a bad driver the plus side it that it can help ya insurence go down as i have seen and u can also see how your driveing is on there site

Have a look at the companies that fit a tracker to your car, can't remember the names (insure the box?), can't drive between 11pm and 6am/7am though I believe, and only 6,000 miles a year. But believe they are cheap.

Ikube,
Got my insurance on a 1.2 8v Grande for just short of £1800 and Im 17 with no NCB first year.

upto 16k a year milage allowance and 11pm to 5am curfew.

Worth a try?
Cheers
Tom

i was in the same boat as the OP. only i had a N reg Corsa B 1.5 diesel. before i passed i was getting quotes of £1600. when i passed i was getting quotes of £4000. my dream of my first car being a nice sensible 60mpg diesel was shattered and i sold it.

so i end up getting the car i have now (thanks mum and dad ¬_¬), and paying £1645 insurance fully comp.

if things continue and i am still out of work i will be selling my car in a few months and not bothering driving. i would need to sell my PC, radio and the car (the last 3 things worth owat i have left that i could sell is i have sold the rest) just to afford next years insurance. i only use my car once a week to take and fech my brother from college (plus a few other "jobs" my mum makes me do) and i dont have any mates to go out anywhere with and tbh i dont think i would cos i cant afford petrol.

the days are coming where if you cant afford it, you just cant afford it and give up with the whole idea of driving. well thats how it is for me anyway. every one told me it would make job hunting 100 times more easy if you have your own car. that was 7 months ago, still out of work.

i hear my mum and dad complaining how its costing them £250 to insure ther cars and i'm just like.. b!thc, please... £1645 to insure a car i could push faster up hills.

sorry bit of a rant but i bet the OP feels the same.

tbh its going to get to a point where young people cant simply get on the road

Insurance is a joke tbh.... But there are alot of yobs making it worse for every1

The bad and the good are all out there

1800 isn't bad really
i'd snatch it quick! I paid only 1600 for my first year 4 years ago
Only 5k miles tho
So 16k miles and a 11am till 5am isn't bad

tbh driving at 11am to 5am is overrated

Just stops you going some places - or it costs more due to traveling

ziggy

It would stop me from working.

Those box policy things are so invading.

Out of interest why are you going for an automatic licence and not a manual?

It was just because I wanted to pass fast, I had a few problems with gear changing etc and I felt confident in an automatic and passed first time, I'm going to do the manual later next year though.

--

On another note, I managed to get insurance with 'Ingenie' a new company underwritten by Ageas. Expensive.. at just over £2600 but I had some family help still nicely paying £261 a month

It has a telematics box and fully comp, but doesn't have any time restrictions which was the main selling point (could have got ikube a little cheaper but what was the point in 'restricting freedom' any more?)(n)

I've done a couple quote checks for next year and if I just get by this year I've seen companies such as Hastings offering me £900 for TPFT and £1200 for FC which is a staggering drop (made myself a year older, year licence and year ncb)

Other than that there isn't much to say, Ingenie is worth checking out for some people though, especially if you NEED/may go out after 11!

Thanks for the advice, Just had my Insurance renewal through last week and IKube want the same money for 1 years NCB! Not best please. So I went on a multicar policy with my mum and her New fiesta. only paying £700 fullly comp with all the trimmings now :D

I think a T-Jet is in order come march ;)

Don't get false hopes by trying to predict your insurance premium for next year. Rating factors and pricing are always changing!

Yeah, according to money supermaket their raising 44p per day on average over the last year or so.

Here's a good tip though, try to purchase your renewal after your birthday. My birthday and first renewal is coming up and according to comparison sites I will save £40-60 by purchasing a few days after my birthday. You just obtain the reference and phone them ofcourse...

Combine that with 1yr's NCB and experience, my TP insurance will go from £2600/year to £950 (y) but with an upgrade to a 2.0 DTI Vaux Vectra, the insurance sits at around £1020..it would be silly to stay with the punto with soon to be 100k on it :slayer:

to be honest i thought the insurance for my punto mk2 was alright,
had a deawoo kalos thing before and it was 3500 a year with 3 points, but with the punto with 3 points and a 42 day ban, is 2600 a year!!!! weird i know.... but ive been driving for two years now aswell!! so if your gettin qouted like 3000 a year thats alright these days for a new driver init.

Still wouldn't part with £2600 for insurance, its extortionate.

Out of interest, do you have to take your full test again in a manual?

is it? ;)
Standard response to that phrase ;)

If you pass the Manual UK test, you can get in a Manual or auto car and drive

if you pass in an AUTO car, you are restricted to an Auto Cars till you "pass" a Manual car test

Which isn't going to be hard, since passing an Auto test, you have road awarenesss (hopefully) and control of a car

Adding a clutch in after a little practive will give you much better control - esp in the snow :)
