Have a 1.2 8v punto. Had it since 2001.

Have 9 years no claims! Do under 500 miles a year and only for social reasons, don't use the car to commute! My last 3 years insurance?

£190 (Norwich)
£220 (Admiral)
£320 (morethan)

Just went on confused.com to renew for this October, best quote?

£529!!!!

I hate this ****ing country. Authorized theft.

:D:D

If it makes you feel better...I pay £450 for a 1.8 Diesel at 22 with 4 years no claims, with 10,000 miles :p.

Have a look at Quidco Compare, I saved £150 from my renewal, and my mate saved £80 on his.

have you moved recently?

still ridiculous though, i only pay an extra hundred pounds more then that and that's with only 2 years no claims

Yea, moved a mile away from my previous address..

Think this £200 rise from last year is the straw that broke the camel's back.. Too expensive to own a car now..even one with a small engine and 9 years no claims,.

different post code?

that is the only thing that i can think of that will make it change so much

That is exceptionally cheap. What is you excess?

yea, was w11, now w9 in London..

But if you look at the way it has been rising in my first post for the last 3 years, I really don't think that is the reason completely. The insurers know they can do what they want and by law we have to buy insurance.. Also, my car before was parked on the street, now it is a secure garage..didn't even dent the quote.

I also tried raising my excess to £450 from £250 last year, didn't lower the quotes either!

We are paying the price for the thousands upon thousands of uninsured drivers out there - although my opinion is, why the hell should we be penalised - driving without insurance is THEIR problem, not ours.
The laws need changing & tightening. Every car on the road should have insurance (not being driven under someone's 3rd party cover) and the fine for no insurance should be many times the insurance cost to act as a proper deterrant. If that means the car, and other posessions has to be sold to pay the fine then so be it. Tough luck. You want to drive, get legal.

if insurance was cheap enough then i think people would buy it. sometimes it doesnt make sense the premium for a £500 car is usually 3 to 4 times the value of the car. then having the premium going up each year is quite frankly a **** take.

Completely agree, insurance for a 17 year old is what, £2,000ish? Get caught without insurance and its £200 fine and 6 points. Plus maybe £150 recovery fee...can get caught 6 or 7 times before its the same price.

Price of the car doesn't really matter, you can still do thousands of pounds of damage in a £500 car and a £500,000 car.

doesn't matter, th emore expnsive your car is the premium should be adjusted accordingly.

in the event of a claim the damage is covered by the insurance company, hence why we pay the premium. that is there problem.

you could argue that the more expensive your car is the more likely you are to look after it and not drive like a **** compared to a £500 car

if you can only afford to run a £500 car then your less likely to drive like a ****. most people (not all) lease most flashy cars i.e company cars there insurance is paid for by the company, where as private owners pay themselves. its hard for most people the way the economy is atm.

And what about high earning sole traders or high earning employees who take a car allowance, for example? Not every 'flash' car is a company car

I don't think you have fully grasped the risk of insurance with your "cheap car therefore I demand a cheap policy" talk :)

I found tesco was relatively good for insurance, for me they was a full 500 cheaper than the comparison sites

i pay almost 4 grand a year on a 1.2 8v , its my first year of driving but thats still apauling tbh , im 18 years old and im a decent driver not crashed never had any problems with speed cameras but yet because half the people in the uk dont pay for insurance i have to pay this much because of my age

i wont be on 500 quid a year untill im atleast 28 or buy a castle somewhere with no public roads with a 10 mile radius , onestly i am bord with the uk and the goverments policys
