I bought a new insurance policy at the beginning of the month for my Bravo. The price was £1350 (I don't have the best driving history). I got the quote from confused.com. I also got a quote at the same time for the car I was buying £1420 (500 Abarth) so not much difference only £70 or so. I phoned them up today and they wanted £500 to swap the cars on the insurance saying they couldn't give me the price they quoted for the Abarth and that online prices are not guaranteed. Even though it states these prices are guaranteed if you buy today. Just wondering if anyone could help. To me it looks like they are trying to price fix as to cancel the policy I would lose 25% and a £50 admin fee. I would have thought that they couldn't say that price is not guaranteed because if I did not have insurance with them already there would be nothing to stop me buying it at the price right now online. Any advice would be most appreciated lol

See I have heard different things from different people. I was told by some that they could get in trouble for so called price fixing and others like you said just take the hit. Even their staff that I spoke to didn't know why they couldn't match their own quote and depending on who who I spoke to had different answers each time. Some said we can match it and then refereed me to pay the extra and then just before submitting payment was told that it couldn't be done again lol.

In the end after a few hours of calls and not willing to accept their offer I have managed to get a refund except for the days I have used obviously and a £50 admin fee. So in the end not too bad. New insurance company is £300 cheaper with a lot more extras included so after all the hassle still turns out pretty well :d

What you got quotes for were 2 separate policies. What you've tried to do was modify the first, meaning it wasn't a separate policy and thus adding extra risks an stats for them to use. So if by chance a lot of people your age change cars X number of months in and then make a claim they'll load you for it.

You name it they'll make a stat and money making issue out of it.

Tbh it sounds no different to when I brought my car an swapped policy over.

You could be right I didn't really think that would make the premium go up. But I could maybe see that a driver who just picked up a brand new car is more at risk. On the quote I did I did say I hadn't bought the car yet though. I have done a similar thing 3 times in the middle of a policy and have never had problems before like this. Anyway I ended up with Adrian Flux they are doing some really good deals on 500 insurance at the moment :D
