Afternoon all,

Just wondering if anyone has taken out specific courtesy car insurance with Admiral (or indeed any other insurer)?

To summarise briefly - our car is going in for some repair work and will be in the garage for 4 working days (6 days in total).

The dealer offers a courtesy car service, but won't let you drive off unless you have fully comp insurance. My Admiral policy covers me to drive other cars but only on a third party basis.

When I spoke to Admiral they said that they can essentially replace my fully comp policy for this courtesy car, and the price for a week would be between £15-30 depending on the car. They just need the reg number, model etc to complete it.

The problem I have had is that the dealer cannot allocate me a courtesy car yet because they don't know what stock will be in (which I can understand). But their insurance provider charges £11 per day, which would come to £66 for the six days I need the car.

Does this quote from Admiral about right though? If so then there's no way I'm being forced into taking the garage's deal as it's twice as much, if not more.

Cheers!

Apologies for the delay in replying! :p

Thanks for the info there. On that basis I guess the quote I was given was probably not too far off then.

Will definitely be pursuing that line on the day, if it transpires that I am left with no option but to take the dealer's insurance (maybe for time reasons etc) then I'll ask for a contribution to my repair bill as it's not my fault I wasn't able to sort the insurance out earlier.

Fingers crossed all will be OK though.

Well, all went well in the end - I simply rang up Admiral when I dropped the car off at the garage and they sorted me out with a week's worth of fully comp insurance for the courtesy car (Ford KA) @ £18.66.

So basically saved myself more than three times as much as what it would have cost to go with the garage's insurance. Nice:cool:

I am regular customer of Admiral insurance since last 6 years. Last week my car was also damaged in accident and auto repair shop told me that it will take more than 10 days for repair. They also offered me courtesy car on the condition that it should be full insured. I talked to Admiral customer service and they connected my call to the respective dept. I apprised them the situation and they told me that they will take £ 35-£40. Thereafter I talked to CEO of Admiral Insurance, the matter was solved at £20. He told me that as I am availing their services for more than 6 years they do not want to break this relationship.
