Hi all,

Had an accident last month which was settled as not my fault.

Just got insured with Bell and now the accident is settled, iv rang and told them about my accident and they now want an extra £287 on top of my £2000 already paid.

I have argued and argued and I do understand that my premium will go up regardless of what I say.

so from another point of view, can I claim that money back from him as part of my current claim I am making for whiplash?

I have asked the claim company and they said to leave it until my form has gone through processing but just wondered if anyone has had a similar experience.

Thanks in advance,

Sam

You may be a genuine whiplash case but Insurance premiums are all rising by up to 40% because of these "No win - No Fee" Ambulance chasers encouraging claims either genuine or bogus...

Just take it on the chin I say.... a right pain in the neck! ;)

@ eklipze3k: point taken, should have thought it through. But could it class as an expense due to the accident? One of the questions on the claim is "have you incurred any expenses as a reesult of the accident"

@ Ffoxy: I am not one to persue a claim unless genuine. I know too many people that have been ££££ better off for absolutely nothing.

Aye thats why I said "You may be a genuine whiplash case..." :)

Folks who don't have accidents get cheaper insurance than folks who do - regardless of whose fault the accident was deemed to be. Fair or unfair, it's one of the Facts of Life. If you want the cheapest insurance, don't have accidents.

Perhaps the most important question to ask yourself after any accident, regardless of whose fault it's deemed to be, is this:

"What could I have done differently that would have prevented this from happening?"

That will give you the best chance of turning an unfortunate incident into a learning experience and also help you avoid getting involved in future accidents.

You can't control the way other people choose to drive - you can only control your own driving.

Sorry if this comes across as preaching, but I believe it's my responsibility to drive in such a way as to avoid having accidents in spite of the best efforts of other drivers to cause one.

I understand what youre saying :) though in this situation there was very little I could have done differently as it was all I thought about post accident lol, I know youre not saying im a bad driver and are simply stating youre thoughts but i feel the same about my driving mate.

I do understand my insurance premium going up and I understand their reasoning behind this, I just wondered if I could claim against the third party further in order to cover for the cost of the increased premium :)

Thanks for the replies guys, appreciate it...apologies for slight emotive writing lol ^

Sometimes there really isn't anything at all you could have done differently. You were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Sadly, not everything in life is fair & it's a horrible feeling when you lose out through no fault of your own. Commiserations & best wishes for an accident-free future:)

Cheers :) gathering from the replies will just have to take it on the chin...thanks

having to pay more because of an accident that was not your fault simply sucks!.
if i were you i would not just accept increased premium on the chin, spend 10 mins putting your details into moneysupermarket comparison site (i have used them all & found them the best every time), see if you can get a cheaper quote, if so use this as a bargaining tool with your current insurers. accept a big excess usualy helps. also, once you have a few years no claims- pay for no claim bonus protection- well worth it :)
