Cheap insurance for young drivers.(ikube)

I was watching a prog a while back which indicated that time of day wasn't such a major factor in the young driver/accident equation.
As far as the police were concerned, it's the young driver showing off his driving 'skills' to his mates (standing around watching).
The risk then 'considerably' increases when his mate / girlfriend are sat with him as passenger, with the risk increasing even more with two or more passengers.
Suggesting the accidents they attend are mostly related to the young driver showing off & onboard distractions.

I'm bloody glad i'm getting older. There would be no way I'd ever pay over a grand on insurance unless it's a Bugatti, Pagani.

If I ever had to pay that for a Punto i'd cry.

The way things are going, it won't be long before you have to give blood as well.
I've just started looking round as my policy expires the end of May & I'm getting quotes back £100 & £200 dearer than last year - despite having full NCB & being a good boy for the past 12 months.
I'll be damned if I pay £500 fully comp.
Previous years fully comp used to be social domestic & pleasure including drive to work locally, they now say even a 1 mile drive to work is commuting ! WTF.

As these parasites continue to load the premiums we are sure to see more and more incidences of uninsured cars on the roads. It's a vicious circle, insurers increase premiums because of all the uninsured cars, forcing more and more people to drive without insurance.

Seems fair enough, i will be at 1 years no claims soon, if i can't get a decent enough quote with the people i'm with, i'l try ikube because i've had my year of heavy fun driving :),

And i am massively itching to drive my marea -.-.

Lol :)

Im 18 and on my second year policy with coverbox who install a tracker on your car,and you pay per mile you drive after paying for a select amount of miles, the miles are split into different catagories like a mobile phone contract go over your miles you pay more, super peak times are after 11pm on weekends, and go at 60p a mile, peaks is daily rush hours on weekdays 7.30-9m 4,30 till 6 and thats like 30p everything else is classed as off peaks and thats 20p or something, so it happens i stayed within my miles last year and did 1000 less than the 11000 i insured the car for and am awaiting a rebate or these miles. So basically as long as i dont decide to drive to france on a friday night its the best policy to keep me on the road

I've just called up this i-kube compay for a quote on my Fiat punto sporting 1.2 (2002) and they have just quoted me £6245 pounds fully comp! I don't know if i said anything wrong or not but thats just ridiculous! I'm 18 and its my first year of driving.. How did everybody else get it so cheap? I got a quote for £3100 with Aviva fuly comp and thats with no time restrictions.. Please help!

Geographical Location, age, previous indiscretions. Annual mileage, all of these will seriously effect your insurance price.

The car is often largely irrelevant these day for that first years insurance

You just don't meet their risk criteria thats all.

Wondering why young drivers pay so much now i did a little investigation, something like 1 in 3 road deaths involve a young driver (17-25) the majority of these being single car accidents, the fault of the inexperienced driver losing control. mostly occurring late a night

the average price for a new driver policy is about £3200! which is unbelievably shocking.

for young drivers the car you choose to drive isn't making a huge difference to the premiums, however when i was 19-20 i discovered that large 4 door family cars with bigger engines got lower premiums than fiestas and novas (corsa if your too young)

the reason being the figures at the time would compare the accident statistics for easy model and the driver so a peugeot 405 being driven by a 19 year old was far less likely to crash than a ford escort or renault 5,

one thing you could try is upping the size of the car when getting some quotes to see what it does to the policy. and if you have parents with a good clean license then put them on as a named driver it can bring the policy down
