This is quite a common real-life situation, but every time I search for discussions involving new young driver insurance what I find is guys living in quite rural areas looking for cheap insurance quotes.

My situation is different - I live in East London (Beckton), so yeah insurance prices are insane due to high crime rates and all the other nonsense :(

At the moment I got two options:

1. Get insured on my address and pay £3200 (can't even pay monthly).

2. Lie about my address and pay £180 a month.

The car that I'm looking to insure: 06 plate Grande Punto 1.4 Active Sport

Honestly, second option is more tempting.

What could you guys suggest? Any companies you know that offer better insurance prices for new drivers in London?

Please do not ruin this thread with posts like
'oh I'm 27yr old male I get insured for £250 a year try this company called CheapInsuranceIfYouAreOver25 Ltd'

or

'I live in Cornwall..........................................................' - end of story really, can't really move to Cornwall just for car insurance :(

Thanks in advance guys!

prepare to bend over basically

your second option is illegal and how do you think your gonna get the certificate ect when they send it to you?

and 1.4l is too big of an engine size for new drivers to get cheap insurance on

sorry i cant be much help but thats the facts

Jipo summed it up pretty well there.

Your from London so my advice unless it's absolutely necessary is, don't drive.

But if you must, try adding parents on as named drivers, install safety devices, drive as little as possible to lower the premium and do the pass plus scheme.

Hi new to the forum :) im also 19 I've been driving 2 years and have just this week bought my fiat grande punto 1.9 multi jet :) i'm main driver and have mum and dad named driver my quote was 1400 with admiral overall very happy hope this is some help

Your only legal option would be to take out a loan to cover the cost of insurance, that way you are paying it monthly and probably at a lower interest rate than if you did it directly through the insurers.
If you can't get the loan yourself, ask your parents, that's what they're there for ;)

i am a 22 year old male.... i live in manchester and i am going to be a new driver... i have been getting quotes around £3500 for a 1.2 mk1 punto....

the price of insurance is frigging stupid

i am actually thinking of gettin a loan just to help me pay my insurance but then i dont want to be in debt for the next couple of yrs trying to pay it back

its coz your in manchester im afraid

have you tried putting your mum and dad as named drivers? that can sometimes bring it down but sometimes put it up so do a comparision on both with and without

yeah..... i have put my dad on my policy and thats why its that price.... if i have a policy of my own it comes out at £4500 plus.....

it takes the ****

have you got any other relitives that have a lot of ncb? might be worth adding them and see if it helps at all

insurance has sky rocketed recently and its probaly only going to get worse :(

yeah i do have... but dont speak to them because of a family dispute.... there all arseholes.....

The quote of £3200 that I'm getting is with my relatives on it. Obviously the second option is illegal, but it is so tempting (not saying that I will choose it).

Getting a loan to pay the insurance doesn't seem like a smart idea. If I found an insurance that would insure me for £190/month at my current address I would be more than happy...

Why not? That's exactly what happens when you pay monthly with an insurance company, which is why the monthly payments will always add up to more than if you just paid it in one go, as they are adding interest. Banks will add less interest and in turn, having the full amount up front will give you more options in terms of which insurer to go with.

Either way, unless you actually move there's not a chance you'll be much less than £270 per month. Well, unless you sell the 1.4 and get yourself something smaller.

even if you did do the second option how would you get hold of the documents when they send them to you?

plus when someone gets a load of insurance letters with your name on them they will get in contact with your insurance company and then you really are screwed

tbh £3200 is a really good quote for a 1.4 with your post code, two years ago i got quoted £5000 for a 1.2 in a good post code area just coz it was a 16v hence why i now have an 8v and my insurance back then was £1400

Get a interest free credit card, stick it on there, and pay it off monthly, don't have to pay the interest that you would with insurance companies. Some credit cards give you cash back as well.
