My current insurer wont insure my latest car, a 2000 W plate punto sporting, accident damaged punto. its all vic checked, and now MOT`d but I need to find an insurer who will accept a previously damaged vehicle.

Im in my mid 30`s with donkeys years NCD so prices start at £260 a year, but getting fed up phoning around to find they wont take previously damaged cars.

Thanks, Lee

comparison sites dont have facility for write offs, and insurers do mention it in the small print, theres the terms and conditions bit that most of us inclyding me just skip and tick to say we read it. In that text theyre listing, no cars that are previous write offs.mine is listed on the log book, so older accidents may not be a problem.
Seems lots of insurers dont like cat d or e, im not fussed if i only get 3rd party, just want to be legal.

All sorted now, ( oh and excuse the spelling errors and mentioning cat E?? :D was using qwerty pad on phone)

Insured with adrian flux, equity star are the actual insurers, came out at £360 roughly with protected no claims.

All in, this was an expensive lesson in some ways as Ive had to cancel my previous insurance, had only been running for 5 months with my alfa on it, so had cancellation fee there, and setting up new insurance.

Wont buy another car thats registered as a previous insurance write off unless its way below the value of a non damaged one.

Thats the case of the punto Ive just bought, wing and door damage.

Was much easier in the past when you had to just guess if it had been damaged then repaired, as long as they drive ok I personally dont care, providing they drive right and the structure isnt compromised.

My insurer wants the vic check letter, mot and a letter from a motor engineer to say the car has been repaired to a decent standard. If this is the way its going then I will steer clear of accident damaged cars in future.

I wonder how many people realise the agro involved when they see that cheaper car in the salvage yard or on ebay?

A mate at work insures with aviva and they dont ask for all the extra crap paper work when insuring a cat c or d. Id happily insure 3rd party only if it saved all the agro.

A w plate punto isnt exactly worth a big deal, so doesnt warrant expensive insurance IMO, so this all seems just a bit over the top.

LIke you say many decent cars could end upo being crushed, but how many people will keep buying them without realising the hassle that follows getting them back on the road.
