Well my renewal came through the other day, and it turns out that insurance companies think they know more about your car than you do now.

On my list of declared modifications:

Updated brakes  did they do it for whilst I was sleeping.

Non standard filters - news to me!

Alloy wheels (optional) - oh are they really optional, I always thought they were standard on the mjet lol.

My insurance never seems to get any cheaper :bang:

£656 - 8 yrs protected ncb, no convictions etc oh yeah 38 yrs old :bang:

God damn legal rip off.

I would seriously start looking for a new insurance provider!!! (y)

Thanks (y)

It's on my list of things to do and have already started.

I've got one company to phone up and I'm just waiting on the name of another one, who have been highly recommended, I just don't have their details yet (y)

Btw. I made an on-line complaint about this and the fact that I spent 15 minutes trying to get through, without success, before giving up listening to that stupid message - your call is important to us, we know you are calling.

As my call is so important why don't you just pick up the bloody phone :bang:

Maybe someone has cloned your car Payney...

I need to go and find it then foxy lad cause it's better than mine lol  (y)

Was it a indian call centre by chance

LMFAO so, so funny (y)

I phoned them earlier and they explained a few things as to where these modifications are coming from, and it's quite shocking really as it's not just Elephant who are doing it.

Insurance companies are adding modifications which they think may be associated with your type of vehicle.

Having just been on the usual compare blah blah sites, one of them said my vehicle has a thatcham factory fitted cat 2 alarm - ermm really!! :D

So basically despite not having these modifications they sent me a renewal quote with modifications they thought my car may have had.

The only modifications they actually have on my policy and still have is my suspension modification.

They are going to send a letter of apology and highlighting the fact that the only modification on my policy is the suspension. I also told them i have access to a vehicle in work which i drive, and it dropped the price of the policy a little bit too, to £634 (y)

My insurance has gone up since last year, but they said it's because of the outstanding claim on my policy, and thank god i protected my no claims, as i would have lost quite a few years NCB.

No one seems to be able to get anywhere near this price, so it's looking highly likely that i will be staying with Elephant, makes life easy anyway lol :)

Just need to get this bloody claim sorted now - they need a swift kick up the arse!!

The two companies i was going to phone, who have been recommended in work, they ended up being the same company but with two different branches. and they couldn't get anywhere near my renewal quote

all i could think of is if the cars second hand, maybe the owner before you had alloys, k&n etc and declared it? so when they put your plate in it associates it with that?

Erm what k&n I don't have one alex lol.

I see where you're coming from but insurance doesn't work like that.

For some reason the insurance company have identified my type of car as having these mods, so I can only assume they are thinking that every owner of a gps mjet has these mods, which was wrong of them to assume.

The extra mods aren't on my policy and the girl I spoke to was even confused, but they have amended the policy and apologised - result (y)

If this is happening to quite a lot of policies, tyen I would make a complaint to the FSA as well as the insurance ombudsman.

Lol where the hell do you live dude...Beirut?

Ill be 25 next policy with, 3 years NCD, 7 years driving, 3 points and 1 accident. I have been geting quotes around the £700 mark on a 2.4l Group 16 car.

I dont get it i just got a quote for £602 why is it so expensive to insure that car?

Tell me about it, where I live is called Bootle but as far as insurance companies are concerned, it may as well be bloody Beirut lol.

Insurance companies seem to think Liverpool is the worst place on earth.

You know that company that fiat drivers get a big discount from, I think it's Chris knot or something, wouldn't even give me a quote lol how bad is that lol

Im with one of the forum Insurances i forget which one but they are a Brokers so why they refused you i dont understand.

They tend not to insure people living in Liverpool, and i also believe this may be the case for people living in Manchester, but i can't remember if the latter is correct or not.

Must be something to do with crime in the area, but what they don't realise is crime is at an all time low!

We live in a really street, a cul-de-sac, very safe indeed, but the surrounding area is quite rough, as Bootle is notorious for crime.

I was speaking to my cousins Mrs last night and she has a Merc something or other, they live about 2 / 3 miles away, but the postcode changes, which means her insurance is about £27 a month and we're the same age, i think we've probably been driving about the same time too :bang:

My cousin has an audi S4 avant up the drive, too :yum:

So, it's quite frustrating the fact that i could afford to buy higher class cars but the insurance companies penalise me cause of where i live - great in it (y)

I would move TBH.

Lol easier said than done with house prices seriously high. I think i need to speak to that guy in America who moves houses :D

After a little bit more searching i came across a company called Aviva, they are doing special discounts for people who have 4 or more years NCB.

I went with this company in the end instead of elephant, it only worked out £10 cheaper, but there were certain things within the policy which made me decide to move to them.

They protect you in the event you are hit by an uninsured driver, so it won't go against you as a claim, though i always protect my NCB, but it would still go against you in such an event, this is something Elephant don't have. They also have a no exceptions keys lost policy, so if you loose your car keys they will replace keys or locks regardless, with Elephant the keys would have to be in a bag and the bag would have to have been lost, and they only cover you for the first £100.

But in the insurance world of swings and round about's, Aviva only give you £50K legal expenses, unlike Elephant who give you £100K though i;ve no idea how much legal expenses i would ever need.

They also didn't charge an awful lot for declaring the suspension modification, which was just under £30 on top of the policy (y), i think Elephant charged about £100.

What made me laugh was the under writers of the policy wanted to know why i had lowered my car - lmfao.
