Chances are they'll owe you money then, rather than the other way around.

Aye, so any cancellation fee would probably just be deducted from the refund

(Or is that too sensible an idea? )

Re: cancelling insurance

Insurance companies only give back a percentage of remaining policy time in force. Most won't return any of the premium if the policy is over 9-10months old.

Its not that, you agreed a contract over a period of time, you cancelled the contract so they charged you for the pleasure... Next time check the small print, remember Insurance is a business to make money, not a charity or public service.

It has nothing to do with how long it takes.

They are in business to make a profit. You entered in to an agreement with them to insure your car, for which they would have made a certain amount of of profit. By cancelling your policy early you have deprived them of an amount of that profit.

By agreeing to insure with them you agreed to their terms and conditions. Just because you clearly chose not to bother reading those at the time is your problem, not theirs.

Re: cancelling insurance

Is it worth mentioning that, with some companies, if you've have had a claim its not so simple to cancel and get the remainder of the premium minus the cancellation fee back.
