Hey,

I am a 17 year old male student and I am wondering were is good for insurance... I unserstand it will cost me loads anyway... I have a 1.1 fiat Cinquecento The lowest so far I have is £170 a month in my name!

Anyone know cheaper or student insurance if there is such a thing?

Thanks :)

Yes insurance isnt cheap...

i used confused.com, i payed £160 per month when i was 17 on a punto mk2 1.2 8v, im sure you should be able to find something cheeper if you search round.

Good Luck!

I highly doubt any insurance company is going to offer discount for students! Students are generally younger drivers, with less experience. Also depending on what you're using your car for I'd expect it to be left in school car park, which is not the safest place. Every detail adds up to you becoming a higher risk driver!

I can't recommend any particular insurance company as they seem to differ for everybody, just try the compare websites. Then buy online, and sign up to a cashback website such as Quidco, and purchase through them, I know people who have got up to £70 cashback.
Fiddle around with your excess, usually the higher you make it the lower your premium will be, be careful with that though. Younger drivers will probably have a compulsory excess, with Direct Line its £500, then your optional excess is added to that.
And, I know its not ideal when you're a student, but try paying your yearly premium in one lump, it will work out cheaper than if you pay monthly instalments.

+1 on Cashback sites, I got £70 back from my insurance.

It's like gambling really. If you went to the bookies the odds on a 17 year old crashing their motor are about the same as backing Chelsea to win at home- it's something that often happens.

Therefore to get a high amount of cash back on Chelsea you have to put a huge wedge on it to start and it is sort of the same in insurance terms for a 17 year old driver.

im on my mums insurance works out at about £54 per month but the only thing is no ncb (n) im expecting it to go up when i decide to go on my own next time i re new

Ah ok, I will try that but my mum has a car in her name so if she was to do a new insurance thing she wouldnt have a NCB... Were are you insured for £54?

Is it your car you want to insure?

Someone mentioned something along the lines of this once...
Try to pay it yearly to cut costs. If you can't afford that yearly premium, and you're really desperate then take out a first year zero interest loan, use it to pay insurance. Pay off the loan at end of year when you have the money.:D

Or you could borrow the money from your parents.

i would quite happily pay that much, i have a 2004 fiat punto 1.2l 8v and the cheepest insurance i can find is £2800 for third party fire and theift

Insurance is a JOKE!

All these insurance threads are just a waste of time the prices vary so much it can get very frustrating. One thing i have learnt is it depends so much on the area your from.

Ring every insurance company on the planet until you go insane then bite the bullet and go for the cheapest one there are no nacks or tricks.

Im with post office on dads name,

First Year - Punto Mk2 (18 years old) - £900 (Not too Bad)

mid First Year - Changed to Grande Punto told me it was £940 a year (Still not bad)

Second year (This year,19year old) 1 Year NCB, No Accidents, No claims...Post office said £1400

I couldnt do anything else but take it, It all about age/postcode where you live buddy, Insurance is going to ripp you apart...Next year i can quite safely say "POST OFFICE...Fk YOU" youre a bloody disgrace ... Ohh and my car is non modified !
