17 year old male insurance....

Insurance is a strange world... I did a bit of a duff quote to gauge what my insurance will cost come renewal time in march, one company wanted £2000 for TPFT for the car as standard and if I told them it was modified to the teeth they wanted £700. (lolwut?)

Better example from me is on bikes, Aprilia RS125 heap cost me £800 to insure TPO, moved up to a 600cc Yamaha Thundercat (freaking weapon of a bike) and it was £200 fully comp.

Best advice as has been said is to phone every company under the sun. Also check the difference between TP, TPFT, and fully comp, fully comp I have found often to be cheaper.

Im with post office on dads name,

First Year - Punto Mk2 (18 years old) - £900 (Not too Bad)

mid First Year - Changed to Grande Punto told me it was £940 a year (Still not bad)

Second year (This year,19year old) 1 Year NCB, No Accidents, No claims...Post office said £1400

I couldnt do anything else but take it, It all about age/postcode where you live buddy, Insurance is going to ripp you apart...Next year i can quite safely say "POST OFFICE...Fk YOU" youre a bloody disgrace ... Ohh and my car is non modified !
You won't have ncb when you change provider because you are not the main driver. So back to square one.

Go on your own policy

Sorry I mean extra NCB on dads name...he has 9 now

Best thing is...£1400 for me and dad

£7000 TPFT for me in a 2007 Grande Punto 1200cc ON MY OWN

£2000 TPFT for me ON MY OWN, In an ABARTH 500 ... Now ?

Is 7k the best offer? I find that VERY hard to believe.

HONESTLY...couldnt be more truthful, you know what the worst is? They expected £14k a year on fully comp...BT13 is a very bad postcode for car crime, i would show you a copy of the email if i kept it :bang:

I did think that was excessive & thought that cant be right, then I noticed your location. Bummer I know even us oldies have to look around for a decent quote these days. Post code lottery plays a big part in insurance.

Getting back to the topic in hand, there are no easy answers loads of advice given. One thing I would suggest is not to mod the car for the first year or two. This subject has been done to death I suspect on most car forums. One thing you could try is the car insurance forums, there are people in the same boat & have posted their findings. Bit of a trawl because there are loads of these sites, but well worth the effort if you get a good result.

Ah, seriously, I wouldn't even insure a vehicle in BT13. I was staying with family for a few months a load of years ago and my insurance company (Axa) wanted £430 on top of a £310 policy just to move from BT7 to BT13!

Was on the phone like errr, no actually I haven't moved BYE!

LOL Really ?

The thing is, car crime in bt13 has lowered soo much from what it used to be, Its the guys who are claiming "Everything they can" when they werent even in the cars! :bang:

The only way to keep it low i would guess is to not mod your car yet, Maybe lower the anual mileage,
fit a Thatcham cat 1 approved alarm (Even if you dont get a discount in the first year, you will sometime)
Locked garage ?
(Baseball bat is optional:slayer:) Or in my case, Martial arts is essential (y)

So being an oldie still doesnt pay off ?

Of course it does. Its just my recent quote of £300 for 20VT Coupe was a tad excessive this year. With a little looking around I managed to reduce this by a hundred smackers:D I would doubt very much that a lot of the young team would find insurance for this vehicle.

Just to add, all insurance has shot up recently.

Having recently had to get insurance for my 19 year old son who had a claim on my policy just before he would have earned two years NCB as a named driver on my policy which he could have used on his own insurance with the same company.......Get a Pass Plus certificate, if you have access to a garage say the car is garaged overnight even if it isn't (just pray it isn't stolen or your claim will be rejected), limit your use to SDP only and put as many additional drivers over the age of 25 on the policy as you can and go for fully comp.

The next bit - finding a provider - is a lottery. I gave up in the end and went to the Meerkats. Admiral came out the cheapest and they do a 10 month Bonus Accelerator. £1100, zero NCB, on a Panda Classic for a driver who totalled my car plus 3rd party costs of £8K plus in the same accident, seemed reasonable to me and a lot less than the curfew insurers (eg I Kube) could quote.

And before the wise cracks start, he rear ended another car that had no lights on at a notorious junction in the pi**ing rain - I know this because I was in the left hand seat and gained the seatbelt bruises to prove it - ouch!!

Surely that was not his fault then?

Im 20 and have a Mk2b Punto Active Sport 1.2, owned the car since Jan.

Im with Elephant.co.uk, i pay an annual premium of £987. thats with 1 years NCB.

this is including with me have 3 points on my license and for notified modifications.

my previous insurer was Admiral and was paying £994p/a as a renewal under the same circumstances.

The problem with insurers is they are not consistent, and cant be either. and its a lot like a post code lottery, if i used a post code of the village next to where i live (has its problems) my quote went up to £2500. the only difference between the quotes been the post code

Hey,

I am a 17 year old male student and I am wondering were is good for insurance... I unserstand it will cost me loads anyway... I have a 1.1 fiat Cinquecento The lowest so far I have is £170 a month in my name!

Anyone know cheaper or student insurance if there is such a thing?

Thanks :)

im 18 male and a student, my insurance is £180 a month fully comp on a 60 plate 1.4 punto evo GP, try I-Kube, its astonisinghly cheap, but basically they put a GPS tracker in your car and your not allowed to drive between 11PM and 5AM, if you do your still fully comp, but they charge you £60 a time :)
so if your willing not to drive between 11 and 5 then give them shot... about half of what i was getting quoted some other places :p

I've heard taxi drivers at who knows what age say they don't insure their car at BT13 despite living there

Thats a Donagahdee job lmao! heard of someone doing that

Im not sure i would be suitable for that kube thing, i work 12:30PM - 20:00PM...My only time for driving is after 11PM - I enjoy driving then, the roads are empty and i an take it easy :p

guy at my work is 18 and he drives a chavy corsa and it costs him 4000 pound to insure his car with 1 years no claims bonus thats fully comp was gunna be more for third party serves him right tho tbh for being a chav
