Hey, just wondering if anyone can help me, my insurance is due in 2 months, and I'm starting to look for quotes so I know how much I need to save up.

At the moment I'm insured with MoreThan, however due to a bad experience near the start of my policy, dont think I'll be renewing with them, unless they are a lot cheaper, at the moment I've just got a quote for £869, which is only £40 less than what I paid last year, with an extra no claims.

I've gone to gocompare, tescocompare and confused.com, and some of the cheaper quotes, I've not heard of them before, and wondering if anyone can help, and if anyone has any experience with them.

First one is Admiral, with a quote of £592.40, which is pretty cheap for me, but not really heard of them before, are they the ones that advertise with a parrot?

Next one is bell.co.uk, quote was ALOT cheaper at £471.37, but not heard anything about them before, apart from if you put a female as a named driver, it helps with the cost alot (Added my mum as a named driver). It does say that they are part of the Admiral group, so guessing if Admiral are reliable, so are Bell.co.uk.

Also, the ones that the forum offer, have people had good experiences with them? If they can save me 10% - 15%, might be worth phoning them up and seeing what they can do, but I've heard people say that they didn't beat their best quote a few times.

If anyone has any other companies that are good, and could be cheap for me (20, male), would be great if you could share.

Thanks.

Edit:

Just got a quote with City Insurance for £414.20, but never heard of City Insurance before, has anyone else?

how many years no claims?

Will be 2 years if I last another 2 months.

Most companies will only give a 30 day quote. so I'd wait another 30 days before looking around as prices will change (n)

Ones I've seen so far have said I cant get a quote 60 days a heard of todays date, so only got to wait a few days hopefully.

looks like i got ripped off

610 with a 1.2 8 valve
few mates were / are with bell

what car? i forgot

1.2 Punto, 8 valve. I did have Pass Plus when I first got insured, so thats helped a lot, as MoreThan didn't quote more than what I was paying last year.

Have just noticed that the £400 quote was TPF&T, and not fully comp.

Just wondering if someone can help me...I'm looking for a new car, I've got my eye on a Ford Focus 1.8 TDCi, and looks like thats what I'll be buying once I've got the money.

I've gone back to bell.co.uk and got a quote for £691, with my mum as a named driver, and my policy starting tomorrow (hoping that it will be cheaper as I'll be 20 when I get it).

Does anyone know the difference between:

12 Month - Annual - £790.15
10 Month - Bonus Accelerator - £691.96

What does this mean?

Also, it has 'Type of policy'

Bell
Flexibell

Both give different prices, Bell gives £781.55.

Dont really understand what it means, anyone able to help?

well the 10 month will give you a years no year claims valid with them but still its only 10 months insurance

over all the 12 month is slightly cheaper in months

and happy birthday

i may be incorrect

Mrs 001 has had the accelerated 10 month policies before and she informs me that many insurance companies do not recognise no claims discounts earned via an accelerated scheme. This may be worth looking into...

And I'll say this until I die (even though they have not been mentioned in this thread :p) NEVER use Liverpool Victoria!!

Yeah I've heard that before, dont really want to use one of them at the moment.

And I'll most likely use what every company is cheapest at the moment, cant really afford not to when I'm spending nearly £1000 at the moment...aim is to get it under £600 for this year...

£677.30 is my cheapest quote so far...

Quick question...I think that may be the 10 month thing, if I phone MoreThan for example and say I've got a quote for £677.30...will you beat it...will they look at the 10 month thing? And say because its not the same they wont beat it?

try churchill.. they came out cheapest for me. £214 and they are doing an offer where you get breakdown free.

No one could beat that quote.

also swiftcover.com are cheap and who i used last year.

I have also been with admiral and elephant - they are part of the same group

Not always necesarrily the best option. I went with my cheapest option & when it came to claiming after an own fault accident, was a bit of a farce, lot's of phone calls to several different premium rate numbers (n)

I'll definately be changing my company when it's due for renewal.

I assume you have done the price comparison sites like

moneysupermarket.com
comparethemarket.com
gocompare.com

I have been insured with Esure for the past 3 years which is unusual as I always trawl through the comparison sites to get the cheapest quote at renewal time. As has been said before Swiftcover does come out as very competitive on price. Don't forget people like Directline or Hastings, some of them don't appear on the price comparison sites.

I would imagine that there will be rubbish in their small print that terms such as "like-for-like" and "over 25's only". Had a nice letter from Zurich saying it had been a long time since they heard from me and they'd like to better my best insurance quote, which was great as I renew next month... Then in the small print - over 25's only! I was like "I got a quote from you, you needed my date of birth for that quote, therefore you know I am not eligible for this deal - so you write to me anyway?!"... ****s! :D Still, at least the recycling bin got some grub that night.

MEP - I got screwed over by LV so much it's unreal. They are one of the most incompetent companies I have ever had to deal with (and that list includes the likes of 3 mobile and CPW!). I told some of my story of woe on here in an older thread.

I had a letter from a credit card company at 17 offering me a credit card if i was over 18, and they knew my age as they had gotten my details from an affiliated club, shredded the letter (y)

Are Admiral and Elephant good?

Just got a quote with Churchill and came back with £708.75 with a £400 excess and legal cover.

Swiftcover where £789.30.

Gone to

Tescocompare.com
Gocompare.com
Confused.com

From there I've gone direct to the top 2 companies and filled it in again.

Had a quote from Aviva for £640, with £450 excess, which I'm pretty happy with, also had a phone call from them today, hoping if I phone up they might be able to get my quote under £600 (my target).

Just put my mum as a named driver, and got a quote of £586.00...very pleased with that :D.

Waiting to see what price More Than quote me, but seeing as they've put my step dads insurance up twice in the last two years, when he hasn't had any claims...not expecting much.

One thing you should always remember is that, when it comes to car insurance, loyalty does not pay.

Ah yeah, I remember getting that too. Was offered the chance to apply for a mortgage with the company saying I was basically the type of person they were looking for with a well paid secure job...

I was 16 and an apprentice on a p*** poor wage!

You can play off the companies against one another. I did this with my current broker. I did it with the guise of wanting to stay with them as they were always really helpful (and they actually are!) and I appreciated that person touch they seem to provide. I am currently using Swinton as a broker ans it's very good as they manage your account from the local branch (in my case a 10 minute drive away). This is good if you need a new certificate for say car tax, or just can't be arsed to wait for Postman Pat to deliver it!

They also appreciated me giving them praise as they did seem to want to help more and were willing to offer me cheaper insurance by taking a chunk out of their commission. Just being nice may help!
