You really dont have much choice at 17.

I paid £2040 fully comp with me as named driver on my moms policy.
That was a 1.3 polo that cost £300.

My second year of insurance i decided to wait till i was 19 as i was looking 3 months ahead at the time and it would of been cheaper. but when i got to 19 it was more expensive. so dont get caught out with that.

So my second year insurance is 2400 fully comp asa named driver.
My second car the 1.8 brava that cost.. £700

Funny thing is the cheapest policy i could get was with the orignal insurance company and they will give me 1 years ncb next year.

You are better off with females as main driver rather than males. plus you are going to be raped for mods.

Try Co-operative insurance or direct line as they where cheapest i could find if you actualy go on there website.

Insurance companys would rather you drive a 1litre 20 year old car and pay 1000's rather than a modern more safer car.

Also note that the town you live in might be high risk as mine is.

The lowest quote i can get for a policy in my name is 4k

You all so being raped with insurance... All of your quotes are stupid. Mine was £2,200 - £5,000 but now it is £900 a year I only passed end of April

You guys really need have a better look around and give up some luxuries for first year of driving otherwise you going to end up paying stupid amounts.

I have looked for ages days weeks even a year before it runs out and it is near impossible. my first car a 1994 1.3 polo no luxries. 1.8 brava loads luxuries an bigger car it cost 400 more to insure. if id have kept the polo it would of been 1800. so really i only would of save 200 pound on a car that was becoming unreliable.

And some of you are insured third party, well third party costs more than fully comp for me.

If you watched one of the newer top gear episodes it shows that all 17 year olds have stupidly high insurance.

Mine was fully comp with a full uk, i didnt have a road worthy car to insure while i was learning! lol and i dont think anyone would touch me on a L200

I got my dad to pay my insurance in one as it was cheaper then paid him back interest free :p paid it off within a few months :D

my mate pays £2200 for is escort and its standard but he is 17 lol

oh and my dad wouldnt let me go on his insurance so i thought id just go on my own tbh! :)

I've crashed once, but just pushed my wheels back and bent wishbone and wing! driveshaft popped out and couldnt move car as wheel was wedged, just cost me £110 for recovery and £20 for a new wishbone :p
no car for just under a week - minor :D

Give up some luxuries? What luxurys?

You say you paid £900 but was that on your own policy or as you down as a named driver? How many miles on your policy? Is it restricted insurance where you can drive at certain times?

On my own insurance, 8000 miles a year and yes it is restricted that is why I said to give up luxuries in first year of driving. Not once have I had to be out between the hours of 11-5

I looked into this but i didnt like the fact that they can see how fast your car is going. i try not to speed but if i lend my car to my parents they would happily do 40 down a 30 etc..

Apparantly if you have a smash an they see you were speeding they just void your insurance.

What about if you break down on the motorway an your not supposed to be out so late ? :p I read something about fines but it seemed to vary from each company.

I dont know about you but id be stressed all the time and wouldnt go out if i had a tracker.

Plus doesnt go well if your looking for night time employment :p

I got insured on my MK1 1.2 sporting today. I only turned 17 two weeks ago and I am paying £73 a month on provisional including legal cover. I think it's very cheap considering my age and the car but I know I'm gonna get hammered when I pass :)

Really lol? Try quinn direct if your still looking.. although i've heard there Full UK license quotes go through the roof (n) I live in a town in Devon.. quite quiet round here but not really quiet :)

Nah im not looking that was back when i was 17, im 19 now on my second year of insurance and can tell you its no cheaper since then!

I was quoted 10k on an old polo that my parents were going to teach me to drive in.

I live in birmingham, on the not so bad side of town. but still we have had an attempted hotwiring and our cars vandalised a few times.

Though tbh if i lived in the country i'd be racing around and crashing into many fields lol.

Make the most of your provisional :D

I'm 17, 18 at the beginning of september. I got my test in 2 weeks and my driving instructor is like 'your going to pass'.

I got quoted by Quinn Direct for £1300 for a Fiat Punto 1.2 Mk2. Still thats kinda alot! The car is only £600 and I dunno if i shud go ahead and get it and pay the insurance with it. Well nice car tbh but I dunno if it's worth getting the pass plus or even waiting till im 18 to get insurance.

Pass your test, if you can wait do pass plus before you insure your car, and if you can wait even longer wait until your 18 (y)

That £1300 TPFT or fully comp?

Jon.
