rite well im kinda wondering about something. im looking up bike insurance and getting some ok quotes but in every insurer they ask whether the policy is SD&P including commuting or excluding. this makes quite a lot of difference to the quote. thing is i will be using it for a bit of commuting to uni if ive nothing to bring and the weathers good (not much being ireland )

just wondering what is the implications of doing a SD&P policy excluding commuting? and could i get away without including it as it would save me £150

The geographical definition of commuting means traveling between cities to work.

I work 5 minutes away, therefore I don't commute, but still drive.

I would say that for insurance 'purposes' it means travelling between home and a permanent place of work. Distance is irrelevant....

It makes no difference for me, policy is still £1,700 regardless!

Unless of course you crash on the way to work, then it 'may' make a difference

see thats the thing. i will be using this a few times to go to uni about 35 miles away on the motorway. the odd time 2 wrk which is a mile away. but in the case of an accident how can they prove i was 'commuting'? contact university, get timetable, travel time and distances?
its a £150 that could go towards a better bike than to insurance. just wanted to get a few opinions on this
