As title really. Has anyone yet insured the AGP and if so where did they get cover from?

I've gone to my dealer this afternoon as my car has turned up :), a red AGP with the optional 17" wheels. Had a good look around it, said I'd definately have it and due to pick it up Fri/Sat. Phoned my insurance company to get a cover note & my insurance changed over for Fri/Sat and they told me they could not insure the car as it's not showing up on their system .

Is this some joke, wtf is going on. I now have a car I want but can't actually have it because of this. Surely someone out there has an AGP that they are driving around but how did they insure it? I'm going to have a good look on the net tonight to try & get some insurance. The dealer has sold another car to a lad that's going to pick it up anyday now and they reckon he's sorted his insurance out ok - with Tesco!!

Nice mate lucky guy.... i decided that if i get the AGP next year that im going to go with red aswell :D so get some pics up!! Also i dont think there is any news yet. I think courtster said that Abarth are having a meeting tomorrow so maybe this will be disscussed.

I iike white a lot but the red does look the dogs in the flesh. Apparently it's called Velocity Race Red! This insurance scenario is a real joke though, I'm desperate to get it now it's there, aarrrggghhh!!!!! :bang:

Did you get the price on the alternative alloys? They're only €100 in Europe, but I've heard rumours of them being £500..

Tesco is part of Direct Line, also Privilege who we're with.. They still haven't heard of it. Like I say, the DVLA now have it in their database, but insurers are none the wiser.

Don't worry John, you'll soon get it on the road!

As for the Abarth dealers meeting in Slough, I've been told it was 5th August..

The optional wheels are £500 but apparently they are light weight wheels that are the dogs, use slightly narrower tyres too, 205's instead of 215's. I like the standard wheels, but like the dealer said you will find these on Bravo's & other GPS's, the optional wheels are for the AGP only so a little bit different.

The car has cloth interior too.

Thing is I want it on the road by the weekend but this insurance farce isn't doing me any favours. My insurance company said they might have something on it over the next month or two!

Damn Fiat UK!

£500 extra for narrower wheels, that are only £75 in Europe, and made for a purpose (snow chains) rather than style.

The leather is €850 in Europe, £850 in UK... winds me right up :bang:

Also, the standard wheels are only available on the AGP. The Bravo Sport has an 18" version of the wheel as an optional extra, but without the black detailing of the AGP

I know this might sound silly - but how are describing the car to the insurance phone centre operators? if you are telling them it is an Abarth Grande Punto try telling them it's a FIAT Abarth Grande Punto. Believe it or not a lot of people at the end of the phone wont know a Grande Punto is a Fiat let alone that there is the same car being built by a never heard of (to none petrol heads) manufactuer called Abarth. I'm sure you have already done this but it's just a thought.

When I insured my GPS 1.4 T-JET a couple of weeks ago I was told twice that the car didn't exist - I kept being asked is it a 1.4 Sporting or Active Sport of any other number of combinations! it turns out they were flumoxed by the (120) in the title relating to the BHP.

P.S sounds like a stonking car you're getting, can't wait to see the pics...

I've tried everything and every description I can think of, from the official Abarth Grande Punto to a Fiat Grande Punto Abarth etc. Been on the phone for ages and no joy whatsoever. To say I'm now extremely pi**ed off is the biggest understatement I have ever made. How the hell can the cars be sitting in showrooms for sale & available when no one on the planet will insure it.

This Abarth Grande Punto launch is the biggest farce I've ever come across & now I haven't a clue what to do. I'm so tempted to cancel the car, lose my deposit and just walk away from the whole ridiculous scenario. :( (n) :bang: :yuck:

I can understand the frustration - I too would be :bang:. I honestly don't think it's Fiats fault 100% - insurance companies will always get their knickers in a twist unless they're dealing with the average Ford Focus 1.6, anything slightly exotic and their world falls apart.

You will get the car insured - have you tried Fiats own insurance? I insured my GPS for 7days from collection for free. If you wnat the phone number I'll get it for you. You could also try some specialist insurers or brokers. Also get the dealer to do some more investigation get them to work for your money.

Don't give up and good luck...

This has to be someone's fault and at the moment I'd really, really like to know who/why as I have a nice little pressie waiting for them ;)

I can't seem to find a contact number for Fiats insurance, nor Abarth insurance for that matter. I'm gonna try a few specialists tomorrow i.e Adrian Flux, Greenlight & Chris Not. If I have no joy from any of these, them I'm fooooooked!!!
