GF had a blonde moment on her way to work Monday morning. At a round-about behind a transit type van, van moves off, GF checks traffic, moved off too only to find van has now stopped and she runs into the back it. Very little damage to the van, slight dents to the door but the step and towing hitch made a nice mess of her bumper.

They exchanged details (name, address, tel numbers) an she asked the guy to call her later so she could give him her insurance details. Today is Wednesday and she's not heard from the van owner. I've checked the damage and the replacement bumper, spoiler and inserts will be less to replace than her xs.

So my question is, should she contact the van driver and ask for his insurance details, or just leave it and get the repairs done without claiming??

You need to find out if he's trying to claim off of your insurance. I made this mistake and my insurance company wern't happen when the cow that hit me tried to claim off of my insurance company and I hadn't told them until their letter came through.

She even said she'd call if she was going to try and claim, even though it was her fault, but the lier never did:mad:.

Just call your insurance comp and tell them about the smack, but make them aware that its for refrence only and that you DON'T want to make a claim (I think that's basically what you were saying).

He called her last night to 'exchange' insurance details - although to her policy detail and said he'd txt his over today as he couldn't find them last night.

He's also now trying to claim that the damage done to the van could result in it being written off!! GF was in a bit of a flap about it, so she rang and informed her insurance company, guy on the claims line was really good, told her not to worry and someone would be in touch as to when & where to get the repairs sorted.

The Van a write off, rubbihs, I hit the back of a Transit at 20-25MPH in the Panda, didn't damage the step on the transit at all and just smashed my bumper.

If she's claiming for damage to her car, then I wouldn't worry to much about his details. Aslong as shes got his name and reg details they'll get the rest.

Did she get pics at the scene?

saw a transit run into the back of the Carr Tanny came off worse

boot on car lock broke

tyranny radiator burst but this is the reverse so.

tranny wont be a right off
i bet the tranny's worst damage is a scratch on the hitch

Thats what i told her, but apparently he's claiming the rear floor of the van is cracked and buckled, I've explained that to do do that amount of damage the front of her car would be totaled. She's fully comp with protected no claims, so I've told her to let the insurance company worry about it. She took photos of both vehicles at the scene:

that van really looks damaged.

look how the hitch is connected surely it would have bent back
tell your insurance company insurance fraud (like they care but)

somthing my tutor told me about insurence companys is that they have to ask you if you would like them to deal with your claim.
but when you fight them they will only make you pay more

yup, that van's a write off for sure!.... i dont f*****g think!

first off, look how the tow hitch is mounted... no danger or there being any damage at such a low speed, the golfs bumper has hit it on its weakest part, so about 99% of the damage is on the bumper alone, his damage is cosmetic at worst. to do any damage at all that may have written the van off, the golf would have needed to hit it at anything over 30mph, as it was, no solid part has hit anything to do damage.

people like him claiming nonsense is just 1 reason why we all pay stupid premiums.
