I've just passed my test and have a Cinquecento 899cc and the cheapest insurance quote I have got is £1200  and that 3rd party fire and theft. I no I can get it cheaper because my mates has got a 1.2 clio and his is the same, I just want the cheapest quote I can get. Does anyone have any ideas?

hiyaa

try going fuly comp on ur mom or dads name if theyve had lots of years no claims or accidents:)

you save LOADSSSSS if ur on ur parents name:)

i had a 1.0 fiat uno at 17 and it was 500 to insure.then ihad a 1.7 diesel fiat uno and got it for 600 quid.and now im 20 and i got a new punto sport and on my dads name im paying 350 quid!!! and on my own name they want liek 3 grand hahahaha. bargain:). going on ur parents name is the way forward :)

You arent building up your own NCB if your on your parents insurance though

And if you are wanting cheaper insurance in the future, i would get your own now and just pay however much it is for it.

Another year or two and it will go down (y)

direct line do no claims bonus for named drivers.. but if you are the one that drives it the most.. its not strictly legal. you can only drive the car max of 2 days a week or something as a named driver.

the way forward is policy in your own name.. and put your mum/dad/nan on as a named driver.. that brings it down. that why my mate does with his Evo VIII.. but then his nan thinks she can drive it lolzzz

:yeahthat:

Although when I first started driving, I was a named driver on virmins insurance with direct line and even when the car was totaled in an accident, with me driving, they didn't ask any questions....they really didn't care.

But you don't strictly speaking build up a 'no claims' with direct line as a named driver...its called a 'named driver discount' as soon as you go to use it on your own...I'm not sure of the difference tbh, apart from it's more money

But putting on a parent on to your insurance will really save you a lump of cash (y)

:yeahthat: Stick a parent on YOUR insurance, and it will save you a bit. Stay legal though and dont go as a named driver if its your car and you are going to be the main user. Yes its unlikely the insurance company will find out, but if they do its not worth the consequences! And dont admit it on a public forum if you do! You never know whos reading what you write!;) Lol

My insurance on my 899 cinq was £1400, third party, a year ago. Now have a punto 1.2 60 SX, only one year later, and my insurance is £850 fully comp!

I did that too, i was paying just over £40 a month, put my hubby on and it came down to £35. Not a massive saving but that £5 a month is better in my pocket :D

Makes interesting reading this thread... Boys are 17 this October (twins) and Cinq was somewhere at the top of the 'car to learn to drive in' list :) Have been mooching on e-bay... and they seem cheap enough to buy!

Their mom could insure the car as hers and have them on as named drivers... I do wonder what on earth the insurance is going to cost for a Cinq with 2 L plated 17 year olds on the insurance

Think driving school driving lessons may work out cheaper  Think its time to start saving now...

Norwich union has a pay as you drive policy that is quite cheap and reasonable, they fit a tracking system to your car and you pay per mile the prices you pay depends on the times you drive, with me if i drive between 11pm and 6am i get charged £1 a mile but any other time i get charged 4,4p a mile, i dont drive much between those times at night anyway so my premiums are on average around £45 a month and thats fullyy comp with legal and courtesy car e.t.c

Wow i wish i had that i would have to 618 miles a week on noraml times to pay my current premium and to be honest I rarely drive after 11pm and if i did i would only be able to go 30 miles :(
