I had an accident in a car as a named driver in my mums name. Now its time to get insured again and i am going to be doing it on my own car. As the insurance that we currently have dont actually know who has the accident and online quotes only ask how many accidents i have had, do you reackon that i would be able to get away with saying that i havnt had any accidents.

Well if the accident wasn't your fault, put it down and tell them it wasn't your fault and that that's how it was settled. If it was your fault, tell them, of course you should be paying more for your insurance and if it were to happen again, you could find yourself in a big pile of poo if you don't. As hellcat says, insurance companies do share information and while they may not check now, they will in the event of a claim.

You think insurance companies don't talk to each other?

Why doesn't your insurance company know who had the accident? You know you're legally required to let them know?

As above, you MUST tell them...sorry . Why didn't your mum's company ask who was driving - this seems very bizarre :confused:

:yeahthat:

If you don't tell them your insurance could very well be VOID!

2 people i know failed to disclose motoring convictions (one for speeding who had his car stolen and they refused to pay out) and (two for overtaking on double white lines failed to tell insuance co at time of renewal she then had an RTA where she was T boned coming out of a junction and they failed to pay her out ((her fault accident)) as she didnt disclose the points

pay the extra and learn by your mistakes :)

Ultimately, you're talking about committing fraud - you may not have an issue with that but your insurers may well do if they find out ;)

Got a few quotes now and its not as bad as i thought. I was just panicking a bit cos i went to Rac before i posted this who in the past have given me very reasonable quotes and on my own policy they quoted me £2.300 which i really cant afford but ive managed to get it down to about £900 so happy days for me.
Just waiting for quick fit to fix there site cos a Free MOT and unlimited Sterio/sat nav value is looking like worth paying a bit extra.
I think they are going to regrat that statement when i send them a list of all the equiptment that i have and the rate that it increases in value.
Saves me money as well because i was looking into a seperate policy for my ice as the insurance generally only covers up to a Grand which i got stung on when i crashed and had all my stuff nicked out of my last car
Value of Items= £1300 =/-
Cover = £1000
Excess = £250:cry:

I would definetly inform your current insurance company that you have had an accident.

When i had mine last year and wrote my Corsa off, i was with CIS (on my mums insurance - only just passed my test a few months earlier), and it took about 2 weeks for the cheque to come through (got £7080 for a car i had paid £7k for about 4,000 miles and a few dodgy learner gear changes earlier :rolleyes: ).

I then got insured with tesco about 2 weeks after the accident with my Micra, but we were deciding wether or not to tell them i had been in an accident. It was an 'own fault' accident, where no other parties were involved. I got the quote from the nice lady at the call centre, and it was about £1400 a year, i then informed her that i had been in an accident, and expected it to rocket up, but it stayed exactly the same. However, she said that had i have perhaps not informed them off it, and should i have another accident, then i might not receive a payout :confused: .

Its always best to be truthfull and honest as far as insurance and cars are concerned (y)
