Hi,

I have just gone 17 and am looking for decent insurance for a Cinq Sporting. The cheapest so far was Churchill, they came in at £2066 (fully comp). Should i just go for TPFT ?

...anyway, anyone got any reccomendations for young driver insurance companies, i've tried quite a few and no one has come close to Churchill yet (Direct Line were close) ??

Thanks !

Yeah, i tried Confused...not that good TBH. Tried Quinn Direct, they were cheap but not as cheap as Churchill. I'm just gonna try some quotes for TPFT.

Got to £1806 TPFT on Direct Line.

tpft, is alright if when you have an accident only involving yourself you dont mind the fact that your car might be buggered, sometimes by the time you add all the excesses together it can be £750 to pay so in that case you just dont bother and fix the car yourself or get another one.

However if you have an accident with someone else, or damage property you might have to claim so pay your excess as well as your car being unfixable.

CIS used to be cheap for 1st time insurance.

I would recomend phoneing the companys you could get a better price than just using the online calculator.

a thing that worked for me was to get a quote off direct line but instead of filling in the registraion number of your car just fill in the cars details, the quote after the little tweak (for me anyway) was about £200 cheaper  then at the finalizing stage, put the reg number in and "hey presto" a cheaper quote :D

and always go third party, my quote ended up about £1100 (after the tweak)and im the same age as you

and when you think that its a whole £1000 dearer are u really gunna claim that much in one year ???

i think not :/

Have u tried adrian flux ? a mate of mine is with them and said they was relatively cheap he was 17 aswell. Can honestly say i had never of them before or since he mentioned them so dnt really no how they could be with things. Could be worth a try though

It pushes the price down if you have done pass plus. My mate got £250 knocked off.
I've just turned 17 and done some quotes. The cheapest for me was Budget for £890 for third party fire and theft.
When I did it for my Mum on her own it came to £109. If I join her insurance it comes to £697.
Good luck. It is very expensive :(

How do you "join her insurance?" Or do you not have your own car to insure? If you do, try adding her as a named driver to the policy, but if you are to be the main driver, the policy has to be in your name :)

We haven't decided yet what to do. The car is mine but my Mum will be borrowing it from me while I have my driving lessons. She will be the main driver but I will own the car...
Once I've passed I'll probarly be added as another driver on to her policy. That's the only way I can afford it :(

Jeezus H Chr*st insurance for young lads is absolutely astronomic!

They are pricing the kids off the road and encouraging the less thoughtful to run a car with no insurance it is insane!

For example, I had a 1000cc SV Suzuki, and my Comp insurance last year was £95!!!!! Granted I have 6 years NCD but hell I know the HM Govnmt wants us all off the road but cant anone with influence see that an insured driver is a better risk than a lad with no insurance? After all, we ALL pay for un-insured driver damage.

Apart from insurance tax, how is it the Government's fault? It's down to young drivers having spectacular crashes, people getting injured and claiming and vandalism  It's the insurers covering their costs (and, being a business, making a profit )

I think the insurance prices are out of this world. Surely its better for teens to have insurance so that they can afford it. This does makes people not bother with insurance and pushes them to break the law.

£109 for my Mum and around 1k for me... it's just not on.

My mate has an Astra and is 17, he had to join his Dad's policy and its costing him £1,500. If he went alone it would be over 3k.

Pass plus does knock a bit off but it's still a lot of money.

I think old people in there 70's are more dangerous on the road I think they should pay the same prices as us teens do!

I didnt say the Insurance cost was the Govnmts fault, just that we know they want us out of cars and off the road.
OK on the young drivers having spectacular crashes, Yes... agreed. So limit them to 40 or 50 Bhp until they are 21 or something and address the insurance issue so that they cover their own accident costs and earn their own NCD.
