does any one in the know have any more info for me on these.

ive recently found the benifits of them in photography especially for cars.

i was wondering if any knows what types are good, or bad.

the ones i seen was ones that were triggerd by another flash. so not directly linked to the main camera. is this what they all are like? just thought that was really clever!!

any links would also be helpful.

the camera isnt much fancy its a 8.2mp hp r927 with tripod etc, but when stealing flashes from the pro's flash guns the pics were immense!

My D80 has little terminals where the flash connects and is triggered by the camera its self.,.,
Isnt the r927 a compact camera?., im not sure about flashguns on those but i'll try find out for ya..,(y)

yeah its a lil digi cam, the flash guns were big black things you could put any where you want. not coneected to the camera.

when the pro was set up n the flash guns placed all around the car, if some one elses camera made a flash ie the r927, it would set all the flash guns off, due to a sensor they all had on the which detects flashes.

so in effect it seems even a disposable camera would set them all off, but the light effect they produced was immense. hence why im looking for some. (y)

oh I know the ones your talking about., im not 100% sure on this but i think with them ones you have to have a camera that the flash can be adjusted to delay before the shutter opens.,.,
And id recon they'd be expencive too

i thought that too, but they guys sed they are a fiver on ebay, but theres loads on there n didnt know which ones to look at, tis why im asking lol,

You're talking about slave flash units. Triggered by the flash from another camera. I'm not familiar with your model of camera, but generally speaking slave flash units won't work with compact digital cameras. Digital cameras usually have a rapid pre-flash to assist the setting of the auto white balance and a second flash for exposure. The problem is that the pre-flash will trigger the slave units which will already have fired by the time the proper flash goes off rendering them useless.

Obviously if you had a DSLR you could buy suitable slave units which would work with your camera, but like I say, I'm not familiar with your particular camera so I don't know what, if anything, to recommend.

ah i understand, the r927 has a function to take this double flash off, dim/slow/delay the flash change shutter speed etc, i think its on night mode then change a few of the flash setting that it worked on. i could be wrong, im a complete amature at photography, all i know is it never worked when i held the camera had to be on a tripod coz it had to be still for ages! and when it triggerd the other guys slave flashes the pics were alot better. although if i am wrong and the double flash cannot be taken off i presume this little monstor would sort that out?

is this what the slave flash looks like?

so you reckon the dont really work for compact digi cams?

You'll have to get the ones that run off of your cameras flash like you mentioned ., your camera doesnt have a flash output

Is this the kind of thig your talking about? if you search for "studio lighting" you'll get better results., Flashguns tend to refer more to the type that attach to the camera.,.,(y)

If you had to use a tripod, thats because the camera has the shutter open for a long time and it'll blur if you move it, so most likely on night mode or manual shutter, though i dont think your camera has that function..,

If your really keen you should spend your money on a new camera rather than accessories., you dont have to spend a fortune to get a good one these days, just make sure you get one that has a full manual mode..(y)

Oh and i like your car(y) .. what are those headlights out of?

There are slave units available that basically ignore the pre-flash and trigger on the proper flash but with no hotshoe or sync terminal on your camera... There may be something else available but if there is I don't know about it, I've never tried to use a slave unit with anything other than an SLR and DSLR. Bushboy might have a suggestion.

im 99.9% it has a manual mode, n def has night mode, heres a lil copy paste effort

Real Life technologies =
AE bracketing, HP Adaptive Demosiac, HP Adaptive Lighting, HP Auto Red-eye Removal, HP Design Gallery, HP Image Advice, HP In-camera Panorama Preview and Stitching, HP Noise Filter, HP Preferred Photo Reproduction, HP Vignetting

Shooting modes =
Auto (default), Action, Aperture priority, Beach, Document, Landscape, Manual mode, My mode, Night Scenery, Night Portrait, Panorama left, Panorama right, Portrait, Shutter priority, Snow, Sunset, Theatre

Manual controls =
AE bracketing, AE metering, auto focus area, color bracketing, contrast, EV compensation, image quality, ISO speed, saturation, sharpness, video quality, white balance

tbh im extremely satisfied with the cameras quality and it does exactly what i need it to do, i just thought that if for a few extra quid i could get some better lighting shots of the car at night then that would be good.

ive just bought it im sooooo not getting another one!!!!! :p

yup, just empty your memory card, and PLAY!!!!

you should be able to fettle:-
aperture
shutter duration
manual focus

basic, but its the main things, enough to set the camera up in a near pitch black room, with aperture wide, and around 3-10sec shutter delay (depending on iso/sensitvity, the lower the better), also make sure its on a timer, as when you press the button it jolts the camera, just 2sec delay is enough.
this is with the flash off. its amazing what it can sometimes pick up!!!

yes you have a compac digi cam, but still, it can do things that will more than keep you busy. DSLR's are fantastic, but only if you know how to use them (I don't). I got myself a fuji s5600, which is like a compac camera body, with a bigger lense for more light, and more zoom, it also has a fair sized receiver bit. but the only problem I have with it is it is quite a narrow angle, ie. 38-380mm in 35mm terms. which means it doesn't do a lot of stuff compac digi's do (n)
