That's a great picture Steve, can you tell me what settings and mode etc you used for that one ?

I took some close ups with my camera a few months ago and they came out very clear but it was a one off and extremely difficult to emulate them again hence my need for a new camera. Your Nikon looks to be doing exactly what I am after (y)

Do you have any distance shots of scenery or anything ?

Mark, it's cropped down. The D50 only shoots in colour, I converted it to black and white on the PC. I used the 18-55mm kit lens. I took it using manual settings, ISO 400, F/5.3.

Here is a distance shot using the D50 and a Sigma 55-200mm lens. Taken at 200mm, Sports Mode, ISO 640, F/5.6.

A landscape shot. D50 + Nikon 18-55mm, Landscape Mode, ISO 280, F/10.

Thanks Steve, you've probably saved me a few quid here mate. I was gonna get the D200 but looking at your pictures the D50 looks to have what I need for a lot less.

I'll have to look out for some high res images with that camera now.

I'll also try those settings in some similar situations with my fuji, I doubt I'll get anywhere near the image quality from it. :bang:

Thanks mate (y)

The D40 is good. its Nikons latest "amature" DSLR. Not that its amature atall.

Make sure you get a decent lens with it. Kit lenses tend to leave a bit to be desired. some are better than others but If you do want super sharp gorgeous shots, you might want to spend some money on a better lens than the one the camera comes with (y)

These are taken with my K800i, nothing as posh as the stuff some of you lot have, like a real dedicated camera! :p

First is a landscape view taken in early October last year, on a weekend wild campin trip in the Brecon Beacons. The gently rolling hills do not tell you the true story of what we endured to climb up to that point!

The second is one of my little girl taken last October.

Both are my favourites from last year.

My current favourite. will take the tripod next time and get a better pic of it as thats at nearly full zoom and it was cold (ie hands not sturdy) :p Thats what im greeted with everytime i walk to uni through greenwich park. Its amazing in the dark, but still learning how to use the camera, so that will follow... :p

Is Greenwich park the one you find if you go to the Cutty Sark, then walk under the Thames (in a tunnel :D) and walk around a bit on the other side and you find it? On a hill where cyclists whizz down bloomin' fast. If so that's such a cool park, tranquil and yet your in one of the busyiest cities, spent an afternoon there in the summer (y)
