The misses and I are looking to get a new dslr camera and was wondering if someone could give us some reviews on any they have ?? we will have 300 to spend on one .
I like the sony alpha A200. read some very good reviews

Any info would be good cheers Adz:cool:

hi mate, i think that sony is dated a bit now?

Have a look at the nikon d60 or the canon 400d. Bear in mind when you buy a particular brand of camera, you are buying into their lens system. Each major player uses a different mount, and they're not generally interchangeable.

Best advice, pop to a camera shop and actually use the different types of cameras - I use a Nikon rather than a Canon, but that was more down to how the camera felt in my hand and how the menu system was all set out.

d40 is a good camera, have you looked at the d40x, i currently use nikon and there excellent cameras (y)

i would be looking at the d40x over the d40 - but the ones i mentioned should be in your price range. (quick googled confirmed!)

I know Sie uses a sony alpha, so he might be able to tell you a bit more about them.

Ello. Have you thought about the Sony Alpha 200? It is a 10mp body and the base kit comes with an 18-70 lens, £299.99 standard retail at moment, but it comes with a sony cashback of £30 when you register the camera on line. I have a Nikon D-80 myself, but the nikons and canons are more pricy for a camera of similar spec. The camera is very good for the price and should do whatever you want it to do. :)

cheers mate . had a look at them cams they are abit more expensive then the sony ... the d40 is not bad price whats that like ??

D40 is good price but is an older design so i think they are jobbing them off cheaper. Nikon replaced it with the D60. Hope you don't mind me popping a comment in. I Run a family photography shop and am pretty clued up on the sony and Nikon cameras. :)

Hi,

Iv'e used Canon's, Olympus and Nikon's and Nikon's are definatley my favoured choice. If your after a point and shoot then either the D40 or D40x will be superb. The menus are easy to navigate and the kit lens gives good results and good build quality. The lens is far more important in giving good image quality than the number of megapixels.
The Sony lenses are expensive if you ever want to expand your kit so i would tend to avoid these. I would check ebay for second hand Nikon D200's if you want a prosumer d'slr with metal body and good professional features. This would be a tricky camera to use if this is your first camera though.
If you want a look at the results you can get from a Nikon then have a quick look at my website www.simonlamondphoto.co.uk

Hope this is some help. :)

Forgot to mention that the Sony is based on the Minolta body design. If you have any minolta Af lens then these will fit the body but there will be a crop factor.

Right on mate. Can see you're a Nikon man too. You'r right about the Sony lenses being more expensive. Just because it has a sony badge they price it up. Nice photos by the way. :)

here's mine. www.neilcollierphotography.co.uk

Thanks for that. :) Your website is nice. Do you use a combination of digital and film?

I just think sony are overpriced. If you look at the quality of Sigma lenses i'm not sure how Sony can justify their prices. But their is a market out there for people who buy everthing Sony, and they want their camera to be the same. You certainly won't see a Sony in any of the press agencies or any studios or magazines i wouldn't think.

I'd love a D3 for my action shots, but the D200 is superb and there is no need for any more pixels, i can print to A3 easy and that is all i need at the moment. Spend money on nice glass. :)

What kit do you have?

Yes, use a both digital and film. Got medium format and the D-80 with the standard 18-135 kit lens as well as a wide angle 12-20mm tokina which is really good. :slayer:

You're right again about the Sony cams being over priced. The 200 is pretty good at the price with the cash back, but as for additional lenses, you can guarantee to pay almost double in comparison for other makes. It's annoying that with certain badges come highter prices :bang: .

I've been fortunate enough to handle a D3 which was a bit of a lump, but wooah what a camera . :worship:I am not worthy. I haven't seen a D200 close up but here they are pretty good. I have seen a D700 though and reckon that is a serious contender for serious use mind. :)

Right about the press agencies too. All my mates in the trade either use Canon or Nikon. It's quite funny to see the divide between the two. It's a bit of a marmite thing going on. Love/hate and all that.

You got a clikpic site too? Mine is up for renewal now. Been quite good and have sold enough photos from it to pay for itself. :)

Do you use it heavily?

Yeah, that site is hosted by Clikpic. I'm afraid i wouldn't have much of a clue if i had to design my own site from nothing.
I am having a problem getting the payment system to activate though. Even after reading through the user manual i still cant get the buttons to activate on the site. Maybe you might be able to give me a bit of advice if it's not too much trouble. :)

No worries, i haven't got much knowledge in the way of website design, and clikpic seemed to offer a good remedy. :)

In relation to the payment problem, i had exactly the same issue. the instructions were fine for everything else, but not very clear when it came to applying prices. From what i understand, you set up price structures for different pictures, and then apply them to galleries. I have a mate who has a great website www.monochromewales.co.uk (and he has used this pricing structure extensively). Check this site out and look at his pricing structure. If this is what you are after, then let me know and i will call in a favour and get him to write out some instructions for me which i can lwt you have. (y)

Until then keep rockin' :slayer:

Thanks for that, i will have another look and see if i can get it to work. I will have a look at his site too and see what he has done.
