Yesterday my neighbour asked me to look at his Lancia Musa (2008, well-kept and cared-for).

As the Musa is basically an Idea in regalia I thought that it might be worth a try here. It may even be a generic thing.

The first complaint is a 'tick' about every thirty seconds from somewhere inside the front door. A bit like the noise a relay makes.

The second complaint is that the door window usually does not go up or down when the switch is pressed. The switch feels normal.

Admittedly after only a quick look - and not yet inside the door - and a few attemtps, it seems to me very likely that the two complaints are related.

Moreover, that the click is there when the window has not responded to the switch. Which then implies that some part of the mechanism is trying to do something but can't.
We did get the window to go up and down twice, normal operation / speed, no worrying noises.
Wiggling the cables where they run from the hinge pillar to the door made no difference and triggered no new noises.

He's not that bothered about it and the MOT is due next year.
But a) it's not convenient and b) I'm never happy about motors and mechanisms and switches continually trying to do something, it always makes me thing of overheated electrical components and Lucas smoke-generators  so I'll probably try to open up the door this weekend.

In the meantime, does anyone recognise the 'tick' phenomenon? Any suggestions?
Does the mechanism use a cable? Or gears?

Thanks for your brainwaves! :D
