Hi, got a 1.4 2004 idea with just 72k.
It wont engage any gears... stays in neutral. Dashboard goes through all checks , Says OK..
With gearlever I can select between auto or not but no other action happens.
Where should I start? Done a search on forum and cant really find alot of info...

Eh..??

There is a MASSIVE duologic failure thread.

Ok:
Open drivers door does it trigger the pump?

What is the level like in the robots oil tank?

Beyond that..you want plug.in software.

So yeah, thought those were obvious. But never assume I suppose.

Yes, actuator starts on opening door, selespeed oil is just above low mark.
I'll get it hooked upto MES tomorrow.

So hooked up MES

GOT ATTACHED SCREEN SHOT ERROR CODES

I've gone into ACTUATORS and performed each function. Results below

PUMP MOTOR - activates pump 3 times
START UP RELAY - No audible click
EVEN NUMBER GEARS SELECTION SOLENOIDE VALVE - Activates gear switch once only
ODD NUMBET GEAR SELECTION SOLENOIDE - Activates gear switch once only
CLUTCH SOLENOID VALVE- Small cluck audible
ACOUSTIC SIGNAL - Sounds dash beep
SELECTION SOLENOID VALVE - Activates solenoid 4 times

So the only one I'm.not getting a response from is START UP ENABLE RELAY.
But car does start up...

Back to the high pitch squeal mentioned yesterday. I'm pretty sure it is coming from gearbox side..

Ok, so now the dash says it's in gear 1 of which I cannot get neutral to engage. So car will now not start so I can make and ADJUSTMENTS. ie check clutch wear..
How do I get it back to NEUTRAL

Have you topped up the oil and tried running the Clutch Drain routine in adjustments to eliminate any air in the system ?

No. Not yet

I will give it a go tomorrow.

I really need to get it in the garage so considering taking off the hydraulics to manually switch it to neutral.. presume itll work the same as removing the selector housing off a manual gearbox.

So I've been out.
Performed a clutch bleed, but not actually bled any as topped up with oil first.
Now I can sometimes go through the gears with the car not running.
When I attempt it whilst running the car jerks and really struggles to rev like its bogging down.
The parameters are showing what gear I've requested but the selected gears jump around from 1 to 2 back to one and so on , finally rests on neutral, or stalls sometimes .
Put it in reverse and it jerks bad and stalls. All the time my foot is on the brake.

I've looked through the parameters. And noticed the CLUTCH DEGRADATION IS AT 2000 the parameters start at 4000. So is the clutch badly worn?

Looking again at the clutch degradation, it's from-4000 to +14000 , so that's either pretty good or very bad... I cant help but think the squealing ( more like a metal scraping noise) is coming from the clutch being partially engaged, only time noise diminishes is when I up the revs...

Tried cutting power and resetting?

Yes and left overnight.

I've got to the point now, where I can select gears while the car is not running. As soon as I start it, choose any gear and it behaves erratic only get jerking backwards an inch but no distance made.if I select reverse first it sounds like when you put a manual only partially in reverse gears grating... if I try and go up through the gears manually it will not choose 1st let alone any further gears just the backwards jerking
Whilst it's trying to figure out what to do, no matter how much throttle I put its wont rev and will often stall

I've bled the hydraulic system and refilled with proper oil. Old was black.

Purged it all out using MES.

I'm still certain the clutch is worn or gearbox is knackered as there is , as before a metal screeching/scrapping noise. But its constant until I put the revs up then slowly diminishes, then as revs drop comes back.

With the wheela in the air I can get it to go through the gears and get a speed reading but some gear changes are borderline awful.. like really thumping into gear.

Reverse just makes a metal scraping noise and either sounds like it's only half engaged or stalls the car.

Some times, even with wheels in the air it wont select gears after moving stick to manual, just jerks and NEUTRAL stays displayed .

I've checked hydraulic pressure and stays constant between 41 and 48. When pump primes it sets itself to a good 45.

Clutch degradation shows a wear of 2000 from a value of -4000 to + 14000 but cant be trusted if it's been reset prior to my purchase.(as a none runner due to this fault)

I've taken off the gearbox inspection cover and cant see the depth of meat left on the clutch, which I've always been able to on other fiats.

Positives

Pump primes and holds pressure 45 avg
No visable leaks
New hydraulic fluid
Primed and purged of air
Gear selection is possible using MES

NEGATIVES and THEORIES

Clutch maybe badly worn
Gear selector is problematic
ECU possibly at fault

Ah... then my best guess is the clutch cover has disintegrated. If it's able to hold pressure and doesn't leak, get the 'box out and have a look. Hopefully there's some mangled clutch fingers in there, and a new clutch kit will fix it.
(Setting the bite point for the new clutch can be a bit weird, but the instructions walk you through it OK)
Of course it's impossible to tell from a distance, but that's actually the best of the likely causes. There are others, but all need the box to come out anyway.

So finally got round to removing the gear box...
Found the thrust bearing in pieces, and an oddly shaped pressure plates forks.. all nicely bent inwards... I'm not sure how it managed it without properly jangling the forks up but hey ho..
Hopefully a straight forward replacement and repair now...

On plus side. Theres no movement on input shaft and nice and dry in there...
