Hi everyone, we have had our 2007 Fiat Idea 1.3 JTD for about 18 months and other than a split turbo pipe and dodgy starter motor it has been a good little car. It was parked up a couple of days before Christmas and everything was working fine, no problems.
Went to start it today and the central locking did not work, unlocked it with the key but only the drivers door unlocked but it wouldn't lock again. Put key in the ignition but no battery or glow plug light. Turns over fine but nothing else. The headlights and indicators are not working, nor are the interior lights, electric windows or the electric release for the rear hatch.
The horn, wipers and washers are working. The radio just displays cancheck.
I plugged it in and it says key and can error, just wondering if this could be a dodgy connection or wire somewhere or is it likely more serious.
Should the indicators and lights work ok even if the key is not recognized ?
Any help would be much appreciated as I have spent all afternoon on this and just cannot get to the bottom of it.
The last time I had a problem like this on a family members Fiat Idea, I spent a few days sorting it out. It was a tiptronic 1.4 which would not change gear and kept jumping into neutral, eventually found a bad electrical connection as the wires came through the bulkhead between the throttle pedal and throttle body. I resoldered it and it's never been a problem since.
I just have a horrible feeling it could be a similar problem.

Have you started off by taking the battery off and giving it a good charge and then seeing if the problems persist. from what your describing it 'sounds' like their isn't enough power to run everything, hence why only certain things are working. Start by charging the battery and then check all the earth leads.
