Hi again,

Having seemingly sorted out some previous issues with my Duologic , I tried to start the car this morning but it wouldn't, this was sometimes an issue if I parked and left it in gear but never if I parked in Neutral. Also, cannot seem to shift it from 1st gear. I took the handbrake off and it rolled forward a bit in gear as I'm on a hill, will this be a contributing factor?

I cannot move the car and it's on a restricted road (single yellow).

It's really upsetting me but I guess as I only paid £200 for the car with 56,000 and an MOT til Sept 17 I shouldn't complain too much.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked the fluid level in the unit ?

And any messages displayed on the dash ?

I just checked and i am getting 'Gearbox Failure' and then when i try to select another gear i'm getting 'Gear Not Available'. So, i got underneath and took of the heatsheild and yes, fluid level is below min mark, seems to be a leak too as there's fluid on the tarmac.

I guess it's easy to top up?

If that works i'll stick with it until i can afford to pay someone to find and maybe fix the leak, i couldn't quite work out where it was coming from.

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

.....strangely though, i just went out to have another look and the fluid level is normal. Then with a bit of gearstick wiggling it goes to below min.

I think Fiat recommend the level is checked every 20,000km, roughly 12,000 miles (so maybe yearly depending on how far you drive).

The reason you might be getting different readings is possibly due to an air lock caused by the leak and when you move the gear selector it releases some of the air etc... ???

Also Fiat recommend you don't park the car in Neutral, but use either 1st or Reverse for leaving it parked. If you haven't already, download the Dualogic Manual from the Fiat Idea downloads section, couple of versions in there depending on your model year.

Let us know how you get on. Any problem solved and feedback posted helps anyone else out later on who might search for the same problem.

Thanks for that. I usually park in N as it doesn't always start in 1 or R as was the case this morning. I'll try topping the fluid up, although i'm now concerned that i'll over fill it.

Do you fill it from the top of the plastic resevoir via a funnel? Seems to be the only place.

Cheers

Best to ask that question in the Grande Punto section, as mine's a manual so don't know tbh.

UPDATE:

I managed to get the car out of 1st and into N, so now it starts, even without my foot on the brake. Now it wont engage any gear at all though. I'm getting 'Gearbox Failure' followed by 'Gear Not Available' when trying to engage any other gear. Topped up the fluid having driven over 10 miles and paid over £18 for some CS Speed from a Fiat Dealership.

It's all rather frustrating now and can see me calling the scrappy to take it away by the end of the week.

top -up the fluid, then cycle the system to bleed it of air. ;)

have you got access to software to clear the error message..??

Unfortunately i don't have access to software to do that, nor do i know the procedure to bleed the system of air. Sorry for being a dummy when it comes to this.

Thanks for your help though.
