Hi,
I just picked up a cheap 2005 Idea with Duologic gearbox, it drives lovely but will only start in N and has to be turned off in N in order to start again without any hassle. If trying to start in any other position/gear then i get a warning telling me to press brake, which i obviously was. When driving ok, I have a constant message and warning buzzer saying 'gearbox failure' and in 'Auto' it doesn't always change up without me manually doing it.

Any ideas? I'm baffled.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
and welcome,
I had a similar car in the fleet for a while,
was pretty good,

TBH - I'd start by getting the fault codes read , then cleared.( see the guide)

once that's sorted, get the fluid levels checked, and see how it goes,

the selespeed fluid and pump take a bit of sussing out..,

Charlie

Thanks Charlie,
I'll start by getting the codes checked, also do you recommend a Fiat/Alfa specialist to check the fluid levels or can any decent garage or mechanic do it? Obviously i'd rather avoid a main dealer.

Scott

Thanks for the tips. You say 'you' as in 'i' can, but i reckon it'll mean paying someone else to in reality. :)

Hi, Further to purging the air from the HP circuit :- for those of us who don't have access to an Examiner or Multi ecu scan , it was suggested by a reader in NZ to switch on the ignition without starting the engine and then move the gear lever rapidly back and forth between N and Drive the stated 15 times as required in the Dualogic write up,( which the Examiner and the Multiscan do) . It gertainly keeps the HP pump working so should work. I'd just like to point out that it didn;t work for me ,but neither did Examiner or the Multiscan. The fault came out to be a manufacturing fault in the plastic of the HP oil tank.:bang:

this was happening to me and Foster & Heanes in Dogmersfield nearest to Aldershot flushed the actuator through and topped up the oil. Was running smoothly until I had another fault. I will see if there is an answer on the forum or post separately.
