the engine management light came on the other day whilst driving, it seemed to loose power a little. I took to garage who plugged in the code reader and nothing showed up.. Car since has been running ok then today the light came back on ? any suggestions

What garage looked at the car? If non-Fiat or Fiat specialist their generic code reader may not show up the fault. If there was a light there should be a stored code. You need some with Fiat specific equipment like Multiecuscan. If you are near Cambridge I can read the fault(s) for you.
