Hi I have just bought a 2004 Idea and have a "boot open" light on the dash I think this stops the remote locking working (central locking with the key is OK) the previous owner said that he had a lock replaced but I don't know which one. I have had a quick look at the lock but it seems OK the wiring to the lock seems fine too there is also a piece of red or orange string attached to the inner trim and the lock!? the warning light is not on permanently but comes on when I go over a speed bump or sometimes going round a corner. Can anybody shed some light on this? still cant figure out the string it seems to be factory fitted.

does the electrical "handle" work..??

ie. does it sense your hand and unlock the tailgate..??

do a search of the 500 section for this.. it's a common failing I believe..

also try and disable/ arm the switch in the Menu's( drivers knee control panel )

charlie - same car..,2005 eleganza 1.4 petrol , auto.

Thanks, I don't think the car has the "electrical handle" when I unlock the drivers door all doors and tailgate unlock. I took have now unplugged the wiring that goes directly into the lock but have left the wiring into the white actuator fixed to the lock. The warning light has now gone and the boot still locks, I am guessing that I will need a new lock since I can't get access to the wiring inside the lock. I am new to this site and don't know what the 500 section is!! Thanks for your input.

The lock has an inbuilt contact switch which tells the body computer if the lock is open or closed hence warning light on dash showing door open. From what you describe it sounds like the lock is faulty (about £30) but you can test this easily with a multimeter.

Thanks, I thought that would be the case, I will test the lock with a meter. I have seen second hand locks on ebay for about £39. If I fit a new lock would I still need to have the keys re-programmed? Sorry to sound thick but I am!
