Hi - I'd appreciate some advice please. I have a 54 plate Multijet 1.3. The car has been in low use lately and I found the battery (probably an original) had run flat. I took it off and charged it up. After replacing, the engine fired up fine but I now have an amber flashing warning light which was not there before. The relevant page of the manual (page 215) refers to an injection system problem - although it does not say anything specifically about a 'flashing' warning light. (Page 217 does refer to a flashing light but this is for petrol versions only).

I'm suspecting that a fault has been dumped on the engine management system simply because I disconnected the battery - I've driven the car several miles since with no degradation of performance at all. Would anyone agree with this? I don't really want a full costly investigation by Fiat for no reason. Is it worth getting the fault light reset and see if it occurs again?

Thanks.
Nick.

I have a MK2 Punto (2000 X reg) that had this problem. It comes on and stays on for a few days and causes the car to vibrate violently when the engine is started.
The next day, it'll go off and I won't see anything of it for a couple more weeks when it'll re-appear.

I got it looked at by Fiat because the vibrating was worrying me.
Fiat have investigated the light and have said they can't find a fault so the warning light is just dodgy.

I don't know if this is common with all Fiats, but I was telling you this as a bit of advice - to go and get it looked at. :)

It's not the glow plug light. It's engine warning light - the symbol looks like an engine with a fan on the left.

I've booked it in for a check. I'll let you know the outcome. Thanks for your help.

Conclusion to a sorry story!!! ...
The night before the car was due in at Fiat for investigation, I parked up at home after using the car all day - still with the same flashing light. On trying to start it up again, it was completely dead - not even trying to turn over. I then got the orange triangle general warning light on as well! I had to get the AA out who connected to the ECU and could not find any faults! The AA guy suggested bump-starting which actually worked and allowed me to deliver to Fiat (I was terrified I'd stall it on the way)!!
The outcome was that Fiat replaced the starter motor but were still getting various fault lights on the dashboard. So they eventually replaced the ECU as well - ouch! I was disappointed to be without the car for 4 days as neither replacement part was in stock and they were delivered at 24 hour intervals - not a fantastic distribution system but nowt I could do about it.
Anyway the car has been fine since I had it back but I've lost a lot of faith in it. Having to replace major parts at 47000 miles is not good and I think I'll be parting with the car soon. Pity as it's a very enjoyable car to drive.
Hope this sorry tale may help someone else and thanks for the responses.
