hi people just bought an Idea 1.4 elganza when l went to see this car i'm pretty sure the indicaters flashed when unlocking/locking the car,l had to take the car back with a couple of minor probs and mentioned this,on picking the car up tonight they said they dont flash its on a 04 plate do they or dont they cheers art

Sorry to reply late to this, only just come over here from the Multipla forum. My wife has a petrol Idea, brought new last year. We were annoyed to find that, unlike every other car we've owned with remote locking, the indicators didn't flash when armed/disarmed.
After a long talk with the service manager he said "Yes the indicators can be set to flash, but your car has been set up not to do that".
This was the the garage that had just sold us the new car (Ted Johnson, Barnsley), and the guy cheerily told us that it would be 50 quid to alter the ECU to make the indicators flash. We were so annoyed at this that we walked out, never to return, and we've gone to another dealer for all our servicing, and brought our son's Punto Grande from, Fiat Piccadilly, Wakefield- (highly recommended).
We bit our tongues and paid to have the alteration, and now the indicators do flash whenever the system is armed or disarmed.
At the time we were going to write to Fiat and complain, but I'm ashamed to say we never got round to it.

ps do we get a prize for owning 3 Fiats?

Writing to Fiat wouldn't really solve anything as the option may well off been turned off by one of previous owners or not set at PDI stage however £50 is a joke. A token £20 is more than enough to carry out this work.

It was brought new.

One of the reasons we were going to write, was to let Fiat know what their dealers are getting up to.

If it was brought new then you should of been given the option to have this function activated (personally I activate this function anyway) and dealer should of done it for free especially if you brought it from them originally.

I dont think dealers are getting up to anything after all they have to make money however in your case I think it was very poor customer service enough to make you go elsewhere to buy your next new car afterall customer retention is something all dealers should be working towards.

Since my mom got one (March 04) i've noticed that the indicators flash when lock/unlocking BUT that's because the FIAT dealer fitted us an alarm system (Gemini i think) as an offer.

Since last summer when we disabled the alarm, due to key-remote problem, the flashing is gone...

So i suppose that by default the car doesnt have that feature... Neither my Stilo.

default possibly but on the PDI sheet it states 'set up of my car'.,aslong as your the first owner of the car you shouldn't (I wouldn't !) pay.

can you tell me if this is a hardware adjustment to wiring or a software one to the body computer please.

I had this problem when i bought my 04 idea eleganza, the dealer Sunwin Fiat nottingham were fantastic, when i asked why dont the indicators flash on locking, the young fitter said the cars computer is not set to do this, but give me 5 mins and i will reset it for you. he hooked upto computer and within 2 mins car indicators were flasing when locking. Excellent customer service and all for free.

Tried to get it done when my body computer was replaced but was told it couldn't be done, work was done by a Fiat specialist not main dealer.
