as title, im on the hunt for some serious goodies now, last night i picked up my powerbass xa 3000D to run my 2 rockford power h2's, and will be working away on the front end of the sound system once ive got this lil lot sorted, possibly going down the high end focal or rainbow route, undecided really, depends what bargins come around at the time

anyway, im now on the look out for a pair of optima yellow tops, so if anyone knows of some good deals can you please let me know

secondly, im going to seriously need to uprate my alternator for this setup, so what are the possibilities, as im relatively nieve considering this...

Look at higher model engines for alternators, the one from the HGT for example may have a higher output - its just whether it'll fit or not. Generally a car with all electric gizmo's will have a higher output alternator... It may be possible to use the brushes out of the better alternator in your original casing, not quite sure on the differences.

When running your batteries, you'll need a split charger system. If i was you, id stick to a single yellow top (as if you're going to run a second battery for ICE you may as well leave the OEM battery to do its job since the stereo wont be connected to it)... Keep your yellow top in the boot as close to your amp as possible, and ensure you can run a nice heavy duty wire from the alternator split charging kit to the yellow top. Get yourself a stabalising capacitor too. :)

As for deals, not too sure. CarAudioSecurity used to do some good deals, but tbh im way off the ball at the moment due to uni taking up allllll my life :( Just have a search around :) MCS-Direct, CarAudioDirect have also done some good deals in the past, so may sort you out now...

Luke, cheers for that mate, but tbh i9m not too sure a hgt alt would be man enough for the job, have been told that when the amp is at full tilt it could draw over 200 amps... and therefore may need something far more chunky and manly than a hgt alt... will find out for certain though

but i have been told that i will certainly need two yellow tops, one as the main car batt and the second running on a trickle charge

I have not upgraded the alternater in mine, HGT, and everything runs okay, carry 6 batteries behind the seats as back up for shows etc but have no problem whilst the car is moving (y)

Steve

Cheers for that Steve

i asked a mate on another forum i go on and it looks like i wont have a hope in hell of using a single batt, no matter how good it is, as the amp is a monster beyong belief, a true 3000 watts rms at 1 ohm so im going to need 2, plus a monster of an alternator...

these are the batts n set up

exide maxxima 90dc cells in parallel

and this is the alt hes recomended

stinger 200w, which will take a fair amount of work and custom brackets n spacers plus finding the right belt to run it, but once that is done i should be able to push some serious db's (above 145 apparently  ) and then ill be onto giving the front end a severe overhaul, custom speaker pods to house a pair of high end comps in each door with some serious tweeters and amp to run them aswell :D
