Need new radio - help please

So I got my radio nicked the other day; bit of a relief actually as it was somewhat crap AND since it had a CD slot rather than a cassette player it was a hassle playing the iPod through it (got an iTrip but it's useless in and around London as there are so many pirate stations you can't find a blank FM frequency anywhere).

With this in mind I'm scouring eBay for cheap replacements... What I want to know (never having bought a car radio without buying the whole car as well) is this: are the connections (now hanging limply out onto the dashboard ) standard in the Multipla or do I need to buy a specific model and/or adaptor? Don't want to spend money on something I then can't get to work...

Cheers,

M

Geez mate your tight! You buy a ipod/itrip think but look for secondhand cassette players on ebay where postage will be 8-10 anyway!
Go to Argos etc & get one for 25-35.

Okay, and now returning to my actual question; does anybody know if the radio connector cables in the Multipla are standard or model-specific? Even going to Argos isn't going to help if I can't fit the damn thing...

Go to Halfords or Argos - I think they offer free fitting on some units (probably the expensive ones). Mind you I wouldn't let some spotty yoof loose on my wiring loom.

I'd imagine the plug on the back of the unit would be standardised now, it was something that manufacturers were working toward.

If you go for a non standard (ie multipla radio) then you need a facia adaptor (approx £9).

Re: Need new radio - help please

Thanks guys; one thing... should mention that the car's a 2000 model; if standardising the connections is something they're "working towards" might that not mean that six years ago the connections were different to the ones used today?

Re: Need new radio - help please

I actually have personal experience with this kind of thing... Can't stand it when people comment and no sooo little - ego's eh.
You will NOT need an adaptor from Halfords. Free fitting at Halfords is not free because you can ALWAYS get the unit cheaper elsewhere.
The block connector that you see hanging out the dashboard is a standardized one.....meaning that if you want to buy another Fiat/Blaupunkt replacement it will fit straight on the back. This ruling also applies if you go for another Brand, Panasonic, Sony, JVC etc.....however if you buy something that is a very serious step up the range in terms of specification then it can obviously start to get more complicated.
My suggestion is to ditch e-bay and go straight to Argos.co.uk and hit the 'clearance' section......they've got some seriously amazing deals and they're all brand new, plus if you get it home and decide it's not for you they do a 16 day refund policy.
All the best man....

no thankfully we have a forum where people will try to help, even if they dont know 100% they will provide views and input.
this gives the OP information they can look through and choose what would suit them best.
it has an added benifit of keeping the OP's post live on the active post listing rather than being left with 0 replies and falling down the below other more active posts.
the multipla isnt heavily represented on the forum
did you find this post via the 'new posts' button? its how i and most quickly browse the forum.
now would you like some sauce with your chip?

@ the OP,ISO standard were brough in around the late 80's/early 90's IIRC
