As per the title, I'm really fancying a JVC KD-AVX1 as you get the screen to watch DVD's on and you can pick them up circa £250 from ebay.
But is there any other HU I should be aware of, before I part with my cash? I'm looking for something like a cool display (y)

To be fair any of the big names sound quality when you spend £200+ in my opinion. I'm only running the two front speakers anyway, My days of "PHAT" bass are over :p Alpine were always the best for sound quality but the head units are

well if you dont have an amp spend some money on an amp to power your speakers :)

and why not alpine? iv played around with them in halfords and seemed best in there imo out of all the others.

though i admit the £300 alpine sounded worse than my kenwood £60 one...

LAZY! Look yourself.

Like ya thinking tho, get others to do research!

no, no, no, no, no!!!!

Just get the AVX1... mate of mine has it and it's incredible, sound quality is high JVC standard, and the screen is really nice, nothing better than jimmy carr in traffic jams... i think you have to wire it up to the handbrake to get it to work properly...(so you cant use it whilst your driving) of course there are ways past this... Really a massivly good unit!

EDIT:also it's face off! :D

You could always get something to start you off on a full entertainment system, most HU are limited on inputs, Veba has a motorised monitor with 5 aux inputs for TV,DVD, SAT-nav, etc. for whatever you want. When on with decent speakers the sound is incredible. Nearly puts your windows out when the THX bit comes on at the start of a DVD

On the + side when it folds away automatically when you get out of the car it looks like a **** stereo so no-one looks twice at it. Any dvd/cd/mp3 changer works with it and has built in FM. I bought the Veba DVD changer to go with it so will load 6 films or 6 CD's or 6 mp3 discs or a combo of any of the three.
You can also fit a TV tuner easilly.

The only really good Sony HU IMO is the C90R. Should be able to pick them up second hand for 250 I would have thought. Although Beau does speak sense - devote part of the budget for a small 2 channel amp - they don't need to be expensive - you can get old school SQ amps for next to nothing :)

Yes Liam does hate them, don't think I would go past an Alpine these days TBH, remember Alpine only do ICE so maybe they are better since more time is spent on R&D don't you think?

Anyway enough of that hope you enjoy the HU Matt.

Liam
