hi people
my 6x9 jbl`s have suddenly gone a bit pants!. the base seems to have lost its "umpfff". they use to have loads of Kick, ive tried playin with my settings on HU, but its not that. I dont have it on really load!. but other day my nephew whacked it quite high in between songs and it cam on WEll LOAD!. wasnt lon after that i noticed the diff!. anyone any idea how hard it is to Blow a pair of JBL`s?. and if there not blown, what it might be, can i fix em!, or do i have to buy some new ones! :(

thanks in advance

well firstly are they run off the HU or an amp?

could be more of a case of them been underpowered has killed them!

good time to change to components and a sub!

there run off the HU, if they under powered, would they work well for a bit and then die?. ive not had em very long...

Move the cones in and out when they are not running, by hand. If they feel grindy or rough, they may have toasted coils, ie, blown, and there is nothing you can do.

I'd suggest if the fronts are ok, to wire the rear speaker to the front output on the hu, and if they stil sound poor, afraid they are a gonner :( If yout haven't had them long though... warranty??

You could be pushing the HU's amp too hard.

Its not really the power that blows speakers its the distortion from the amps or the source. I have 220 watt amps in the house my speakers are rated at 120 watt they sound better with a more powerful amp, because there is less distortion at high volume. There is more headroom. The head unit for a power source is not really good if you intend to build a quality system. they sound real flat... Although for most people it is adequate

pushed the cones , they seem fine, although not too sure aobut the more expensive pioneers!. will have to double check them. WHat i dont get , is that they USED to work and sound great!?. why would they suddenly go naff:S

Did you get any funny burning smells from the speakers?

not that i recall no, would loose wires be a possiblity?. it was a bit ad-hoc when i did it!

Could be dodgy connections :)
