Plain boot build ideas? (need spare wheel access!)

Installed on saturday, the fake floor is great, can be removed in less than five minutes, and is sturdy as hell :D Spare wheel easily accessed too (y)

Wires have been run invisibly, you can see the earth wire in the boot, and um, that's about it! :)

Sadly, there's a bit of a problem...

The sub's remote led light's up nice and bright and bloo, but there's no movement from the sub itself :( The voltages at the amp bit of the sub are all how they should be, the fuse is fine, but the sub makes no noise :( I figure it's a problem between the amp bit and the sub, but won't open it up incase it stops the seller from sending me a replacement. Both the 'gain' and 'frequency' pots were set to middleish, and i dont know what might be the problem other than a faulty unit :(

At least all the 'work' has been done now though, just a matter of fitting a replacement enclosure when i get one! 10 minute job :) Anyone worried about the size of these things, don't be. In the punto you can still easily access the spare wheel, and i got 8 bags of shopping in there yesterday alongside the sub :) (removed fuse from sub for now to prevent further damage from power surge etc)

If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know! (y)

If you can, try out the sub on someone else's car, or the HU :)

I think you can use a multimeter on the RCA outputs on the HU........I'm sure I've read something about it...................buggered if I can find it now though.....:bang:

Oh yeah, did that :duh:

There was voltage when music playing, none when off, as it should be.

Fair nuff, not the HU then :)

oh well, just waiting for a reply off mr ebay then. seems it's definately something wrong inside the encolsure between the amp and the speaker itself.

sent an email on saturday, no reply yet :( hopefully he'll get in contact tomorrow, as he has a couple auctions ending in about 24hrs.

cheers for help anyway :)

Hey there! Glad to see everythings going well for you and your boot :) I've got one of those Fli 12's coming from the same guy in what should be tomorrow or the day after, and the wiring you suggested coming tomorrow.

Gonna check that Sub out thoroughly now when it comes, shame you had a problem with it :( I found he always answers his e-mails about 10:30 - 11:30 in the morning and that's the only time. He was very helpful though and put a BIN on for me.

Hope you get it sorted, let us know how you get on :)

Hello! Had my Sub now for 2 days and loving it, people look at me strange when they see a Van blasting music with a Sub :D (or is that just me?). Sounds really good even with the standard speakers, but because theres 6 of them, it's plenty loud enough and shouldn't need to upgrade them for a long while!

Anyway although it was sent to the wrong address first of all, I now have it a week later. How is yours going, any luck on a replacement?

Thanks to you all for the recommendation, really happy with both the Sub and the Wiring Kit! :)

He should be ok about swapping it, my friend bought one and the amp blew after having it around a month or so, just went after he plugged it back in after an Autotest.

The seller on eBay sent him a new one right away in exchange for the knackered one, seems like a top bloke!

Hope you get sorted as you deffo need some FLi action in your life(y)

The replacement amp should arrive by the weekend. Any problems after trying that and he'll replace the entire unit for me. Seems to be a real good guy (y)

The replacement amp has just arrived (popped home from work for lunch and the parcel was waiting for me :D). Going for a pint or two after work as the weather is pretty spectacular up here at the moment, so will probably fit it tomorrow. Hopefully this will sort it all out, I'll let you guys know :)

Oh yeah: remove 5 screws, unhook 2 spade connectors, connect 2 spade connectors from new amp, replace 5 screws... how easy is that!? I might just do it before going to the pub tbh, can't take longer than 5 mins! :D

Good glad you got it now! Hopefully you'll have a nice Sub in by tomorrow :D How the hell are you going to take it apart by the way to fit the new amp :p

Good Luck let us know how you get on :)

LOL :p

you have 5 big crosshead screws at the back of the unit, unscrew them and you can remove the amp unit :) easy :D

hope it all goes well :) (i've actually started thinking the stock speakers alone are almost bearable )

well stop posting and get it done ;)
you know fine well that when you upgrade the speakers you will see the light

Ahhh thought they just removed the back plate  never mind :p

Good luck! And maybe I will upgrade the speakers eventually, but have a list of other things to spend some well earned dosh on first :) it'll do for now!

As custard mentioned above, I designed the boot build in my tipo around the spare wheel and you still get plenty enough space to put things in, well, in a tipo anyway :) Plus it was being fibreglassed so I coulkd take advantage of curving things around the wheel etc. Would have looked great if i finished it (n)

Yeah, i read your thread a while ago, shame you never finished :(

Fitting the replacement amp is a wee bit more complicated than i first hoped. the speaker wire isn't very long, so i think i'm going to have to splice the existing wires with the new ones, been waiting for a reply off mr ebay as to whether or not this will affect my warranty though. I shouldn't think so, and I have loads of ofc speaker cable I could use to replace the cut cables, so weather permitting i'll have a go later :)

As soon as i have the sub working i might consider improving the very basic build i currently have!

(on an unrelated note, i really love my car. getting £228 for travelling expenses this month, though there's no chance i've spent over £50 on petrol :D i know it covers wear and tear too, but 400% plus is pretty cool  and it'll be a lot more next week hopefully!!)
