Pioneers buttons are much more sturdy and they do go on forever! We shall see :) again, thanks to all of you for your input :)

I'll say! DEH1430R bought second hand off step sons mate for £50, after said mate totalled the car it was fitted to, is still going 3 1/2 years later and 3 cars down the line :D

Well i've bit the bullet and gone for the mentioned Pioneer DEH-P6800MP. After trying my fathers pioneer in my Doblo, the sound was such an improvement I've decided to go for one. Will let you know what it's like when I get it :)

That unit = sex

just got new stock in @ work the whole audio board is changing and we've got a load of new units in, this is possibly one of the best we will be putting out.

apart from the JVC AVX2... mmmmmmm widescreen.....

finally started sticking some stand alone dvd players aswell (no screen) v.good quality

Yeah, my local Halfords didn't know anything about the new models out this year, completely useless is my little local store, but I would have got it off the net anyway, Halfords site displays this unit at nearly £60 more than I paid plus extra for postage! No offence to yourself intended of course :)

not at all.

I'd never buy a unit from Halfrauds, too fegging expencive, but it's always nice to be able to go in to a shop and have a fiddle around with them.

Yeah I agree, I had a look at last years Alpines still on display down at my local a few days ago and they actually felt nice but bit the bullet and hoped that it would live up to my expectations when it arrived even though I've never seen it in the flesh :) My dad has a Pioneer though that's about 4 years old and that's still good so I shouldn't be dissappointed :)

wats the square thing at the side of the knob? Looks liek it comes off or opens up in some way?

Shoulda listened to a well set up Alpine woulda changed your mind :p

Although it did take me around a week to get mine sorted properly with the crossovers time correction and various EQ's. But it sounds bloody lovely now.

Thats the thing about Alpine units most people chuck them in and dont know about half the features. Or even how to get into a lot of the menus it works it sounds good there not interested in the rest cause they dont know what it does.

Spent some time setting one up properly and the difference is incredible especially when its paired with some decent amps and sub / speakers.

I find the new Alpines a little "bright" - infact I preferred the sound of my crap old Sony HU - so I got myself an oldskool Alpine 7944, which has a warmer sound to it and was their "competition" model years ago.

What sounds good to one person isn't always going to sound good to someone else, audition them all before making a decision.

never had an alpine, always had pioneer. Just got this fellow, kenwood
xxv-o1d, 25th anniversary head unit, so much stuff to customise. 125 different colour for text, etc and only 100 in the country. If you stil looking for a headunit, if theres any of these left, well worth the £310 price tag
