if you are uprating the battery look at optima, red flash and hawkers, but you will also need to look at changing the alternator too.

Also make sure you don't bridge the amp to the sub or you will blow the amp.

How much will all this cost roughly.
I dont know much about subs and amp, what you mean bridge the amp?

New batts are £200+, can be picked up on ebay from around £70

Would be worth trying to get a bigger alt of another car that will give you more aH.

The amp is a two channel that you can bridge (to make it mono), the amps spec says that it is 1000x2 at 2ohm or 2000x1 at 4Ohm.

The sub is a D4 so running the amp bridged in series will show amp 8Ohms and paralell it will be 2 Ohms which the amp can't do so you will need to run the sub paralell so take the 2 channels and run them to each VC.

The package CAC have put together isn't the best as you can't get the most from the amp with the VC config

That sub would be seeing a lot less than 2000W IMO.

I think it may be borderline whether the standard battery can take it or not :chin: It would be better to have a stand alone battery, but to whether its necessary may be another thing........................ :chin:

to be fair that amp aint 2000watts rms so that amp might only be giving out 900watts because that amp aint the bests of makes, try and find the rms of the amp and then decide on the upgrade of the battery

 Where do you buy your batteries from?!?

Round here you can pick up a very decent one better rated than stndards with a good brand new on for £60-90, for a VERY decent one!

Marky means a specialist battery, such as Optima, which has a higher output than a normal car battery.

Hi.. i recently purchased this sub and amp deal:

http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product.asp?product=21253

Most people who can fit it for me, are telling me that the battery in my fiat punto 1.2 16v ELX cant handle the 2000watt amp. is this true? and if so, what kind of battery would i need.
:slayer:

I am running over 2000w rms off my bog standard battery and as long as I am sensible with the volume,it handles it all okay (y) If I push the volume up to high then you see the trouble of lights flashing in time with the bass:eek:

I do carry a dedicated battery now for when engine not running to enable me to use the setup for a while, using just the car battery for this I am dead in the water about 20mins later:cry: .

nope, one of the worst things you can do is put a cap in there if you have power issues. Battery/alt upgrade or even put a second battery in.

As Chaos said eailer the optima/redflash/hawker batteries are special ones, they have large aH capacity but can also be used as a starter battery.

Your best bet will be to fit the amp and see how you get on and if you notice the lights dimming when the bass is playing hard the look at sorting the power side out.

On Skoda Favorit (don't laugh) fitted heaviest duty battery that would fit the space for it under the bonnet and bought uprated alternator off late model Felicia from scrappies to compensate for the 25 amp current draw of the audio (like having the heated rear window on permanently!) P.S. Split charging system from Towsure (mecca of the outdoors/camping types) about £12-£15 for the electronics/relay to charge a second deep cycling (designed to be constantly flatened and recharged) leisure battery and of course leisure battery itself may be a cheaper option than optima's for when your pumping bass with the engine off! Search net for wiring diagram courtesy of camper vanning fraternity and you should be sorted!

Is it possible for the engine to just not start if i go ahead with the sub and amp installation?

I dont want to be left with a car that aint going to start.
O yes. and with a second battery, will i still need to get an alternator.. Im trying to avoid getting a alternator.

The way I got around the problem if the car did not start, which has been few and far between twice in the last year, is to carry a spare battery and jump leads behind the passenger seat.
Sorted and cheap.
