Firstly, big Hi to everyone :D

Secondly can anyone advise me on some new speakers and possible new amp and subwoofer. I have recntly bought a Punto Sporting (2001 Y) oh and am loving it :) I fitted a new Kenwood Head unit which is great the standard sub and speakers however aren't all that loud, and well I like loud ;)

I was thinking of some 6x9's but after speaking to a friend he advised otherwise as fitting them to the parcel shelf causes the whole shelf to rattle. Has anyone fitted in some nice speakers into the current fittings?

Cheers :)

thats a load of bull m8 i have 6x9 on my parcel shelve and it dont rattle at all my car is a uno! also they are boss and only cost me 15quid and soun great!
i have a boss sub in the back which has 2 9inch speakers in a long flat box! it sounds really good and i am looking for a new sub at xmas 10inch i think coz i aint gettin a new amp yet they cost to much! a good pace to get amps from is called maplin electronics!
i got a xcite 350watts amp for £50 not bad and they do others for cheap aswell worth a look!
but good place for sub and speakers is motormania! they ave lots of good stuff also called kroozing if your looking on the net i think (hold on) nah i cant find he link but ithink its called motor world hope it helps :/

gotta love the uno's

How many times.......[}:)]

I am very sorry for this but I think that the advice from SpamOr is wrong. Sorry SpamOr.

A brand new Punto will take quite a big pair of speakers in the front doors, get some 6.5" components if you can and mount the tweeters as near as possible to the mids (if you can). A sub in the boot is the only way to go after this and a decent 4 channel amp to power it all.

Dont bother with rear speakers, ruins the imaging. If your not looking to spend much money I would advise spending the majority of the budget on the front end of the car, I know most people save the most for the sub but trust me, a decent set of components for the front end will improve the sound 10 fold. Especially when running from an amp, the difference is astounding. Have a look at Fusion, Crystal and Alpine for the comps. The amp neednt cost the earth, probably the best amp for zero money is going to be Mac Audio ones, have a look at the MacAttack range (not the best looking but are regarded as the best for the money). What sort of music do you listen to? For say Hip-Hop, RnB I would look at a 12" for the deepness and the weighty bass and for Dance and Trance I would look at a 10" for speed and accuracy. It also depends greatly on the box your putting it in, too big and the sub will flap and too small and you can blow it up very easily (I should know, tried 1000 Watts RMS through an old crappy 10" Boss sub rated at 200 Watts RMS, put it in a tiny box and smoked it!) but the perfect box, be it sealed or ported, will make the most difference to a sub or amp performance. You could spend a small fortune on an RE sub and have a poorly designed box and a Sony Xplod would whup it in a perfect box.

Anyway...its up to you, its your car, just my 2p worth :)

P.S sorry Spam0r! :)

Cheers for the advice guys, some difference's in opinion there ;)

Will have to check out my options here cash wise and see whats available on the market :)

I usually listen to breaks really, so I guess I'm looking for a punchy sub rather than something real phat!

Just another question :)

As far as the speakers are concerned what sort of maximum power output will give me a nice sound?

Sando: Was thinking might get these for the front then sub later:

What do u think?

Cheers again :D

Well i personaly think the parcel shelf thing is crap... well mine doesnt rattle (I also own an Uno... could just be an uno thing then)

I have a pair of (supposedly) 800W Pro Sound 6x9s on the rear shelf.. they came with the car when i bought them but they cost £30 in some places. And i also have a sub that I build in the boot. Its got 2x 450W 12" boschmann subs.. the subs cost me £50 each and sound amazing. The actual sub box cost me about £50-£60 to build out of 0.8"MDF. It literaly takes up the whole boot... i dont have anywhere for the amp which is a 500W Xcite amp (£50 from macro) which just powers the sub. the 6x9s run off the head unit (which is rubbish but im changing that)

I dont have any front speaks but i have been meaning to get some... 4" fit the uno in the dash... hmmm think i might get some tonight actually...

The only rattling i have in my car is the dash and a few other things... not the parcel shelf...infact i find it stops the rattling simply because it weighs down the shelf.

my setup is great if u want a really powerful bass either for punchy or rolling.

The pioneers would be fine. Also have a look at the vibes: http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=466 These would be just as good for a couple of quid less. You would also have less of a big name audio system, which is a bit more credible IMHO.

Good luck with it all,

If you want any advice PM me.

agreed with sando completly forget about rear speakers only ever use them in a dolby system or if u drive a big 5 door

rember wen choosing an audio equipment to look at the nominal power not peak so the amp you see with 1000w on it is never going to give anywere near that

also agree u should look at mac audio, the best budget brand from what ive heard

sando wot the hell kinda amp you got to be putting out 1000w? and wot load was u running it into?

wots ur budget sh33n for your front components? remebering once you get over the 100ish mark ur really gonna need an amp for them to avoid blowing them

Hei.

I think rear speakers are quite good, but don't mount them in the exisiting shelf - those are poor, and are only ment to keep a cozy little teddybear. You have to reinforce (correct word?? make it stronger...) the shelf or remove it completely and wrap a piece of cloth around a new wooden shelf cut to fit the original.

The amp was a mates rated at 1000w RMS at 4ohms...an old hifonics one IIRC, could have been less though (which makes it even funnier!!). My first sub box I ever had was a boss one with 2 10" subs in a bandpass box. I cut the box to bits and blocked the holes so that I could use the two boxes seperate as sealed. Anyway...Had the box wired up for a laugh and he put a test tone CD in...40hz then 30hz then 20hz and then down in 1hz increments to 15hz. Left it running for a while without giving it 60hz cooling off. Just sort of made a pop noise followed by some random farting noises! Took the sub from the box and it was filled with smoke! yay! Smoked my first ever sub!

The box was probablt the worst I have ever heard on test tones, its not the sort of box for SPL is it though?!?

Haven't really got a budget set out, as I was gonna buy it in stages like, but was thinking no more than £300 really.

How much do u think I'll need to spend on a decent system?

Get a decent headunit first. Then a high quality set of components. As for subs, spend more on the amp you want to power them with than the subs themselves. With £300, it must be tempting to shove some cheap subs in the boot with an even cheaper amp attached, and be done. Avoid this temptation!

Already have a new head unit, Kenwood 4x50w, so just need new amp, speakers and sub :)

Can you run the speakers off the unit ok or is it best to run them through the amp also?

To get the best from the speakers run them from the amp. This way you can give them all the power they can handle, high pass them so that they are'nt disrupted by bass and the amp will always be of a higher quality.

The best bet will probably be looking in the back of max Power or Fastcar at the offers that the ICE dealers have. Usually you can pick up a sub, box, amp and wiring for well under £200. But if you need a 4 channel amp have a look for the deals where you get a sub. box, amp, wiring and a pair of 6x9's. Naturally sell the 6x9's to one of your mates and put the money into some components.

You could run the comps from the HU for now and spend more on the sub and amp and when the time comes get an amp for the comps.

Its all up to you at the end of the day but remember to have a listen to what your buying first if you can. If not ask around on here, no doubt someone has heard what you're wanting.

u cud buy my 15" KICKER if u really want loud

or are you just say that

at the end of the day the big number on the side with a big W after is only half the story

it doesnt matter how much power is running thru a speaker if its 8" D it isnt going to get those low frequencies like a larger cone will.
granted; every speaker has its sweet spot when it is playing its best volume to amount of power rated through it and if you hav chosen your speaker company well this will be its RMS.

remember you have to treble the wattage to double the db.s, so if u want a really loud system u will need alot of watts, u are looking at having a 1 farad power capp for every 1kW and if your running over 2kWs then id recomend another battery

but a little birdy tells me u dont want it that loud

oh and on the component front i recomend FOCAL components, after listening to numerous amounts of components i hav decided that for the money FOCAL are the best value there are stupid money ones but JL audio an rockford fosgate are a bit pricey
