New Speakers and Sub

New Speakers and Sub

Sorry mate but I think you have your wires crossed. Adding 3db will be twice as loud. 153db is twice as loud as 150db. Adding another 3 times the amount of watts wont nessecerialy double the volume. It may be louder but not twice as loud. Always remember that ICE = 10% Equipment + 90% Installation.

An 8" can be just as loud as a 12" and go deeper. Look at the Crystal COMP8, that is one mother fooker of an 8" sub.

Peak power is used in SPL, not just RMS. Peak power is what an amp will produce or a speaker will sustain very briefly, like in an SPL competition. But as a guide, always use RMS. I'll give you that one! ;)

Power caps are a fashion item. It doesnt matter how many watts your system is capable of, its all about drawing amps. Go for a new battery under the bonnet anyday, Varta make fairly cheap bad boy batteries that will be more useful, and you can use the £70 saved to take your girlfriend out to apologise for always spending time and money ion your car! Then if your still drawing too much, uprate the alternator. If you STILL need more power, your mad and need to look at a split charge system. I would only ever get a 1/2 farad cap to be as a back up for the HU when the bass drops, thats it.

Comps...where do I start? Basically, you get what you pay for.

Hope this helps. :)

yer im sure i werent writting EXACT figures when it came to db to volume BUT a still go a message (dunno wot message) across.

power capps are not purely cosmetic and do serv a purpose in the real world as they are in many cases lighter and smaller than a whole new battery when u may not need a whole new battery u just wanna stop the full beams dipping with the beat

if ur refering to Comps as in my Comp VR then u do get what u pay for and what u pay for is a mean speaker which is alot more capable of providing bass than a type S or a hifonics sub

and back to my reference to cone size, it does provide deeper bass, otherwise we wud all have tweeter cones in the boot for subs
but on the otherhand it must be possible ud jus need a very powerful tweeter and alot of MDF

When has weight come into ICE? If ICE is someones main concern then why are they messing around with 18mm MDF in the boot??!!?? A cap is just a small battery that, when under load, will put some ampage back into the swirl of things. If you lights are dimming then you need a new battery and then maybe a bigger alternator. Sticking a cap in is just a bodge, in my eyes. A new battery, such as a decent Varta will cost less than a cap and will fit back into the standard battery tray.

As for cone size, what I meant was that a 15" sub wont nesseceriarly be deeper than an 8" sub. Dont be silly and start talking about tweeters being deep, I know you were joking but seriously, some 8's can be as deep as a 15".

I didnt mean your CompVR, I was talking about Comps....or Components, if you like.

I bought a decent quality set up which produces amazing quality for the price. JBL comps up front £50, JBL 6x9's in the shelf £40, 2 x JBL 10" subs and a 6 channel JBL GTO6000 1100watt amp £150.

Its great when you see the thing hanging from my rear view mirror move about with the bass vibrations. Beats any hospital back vibro massage therapy :D

and that wot im talkin about sando

some 8" speaker are deeper only because they hav been put in the correct box.
put a 15" sub in an equivilant box and it WILL be deeper its simple bigger cone - moves more air - more air moved means bigger waves - bigger waves means deeper bass
bobs ur fathers brother

I was talkin about in an ideal box. Im not talking about every single 8" sub Vs. every single 15" sub BUT certain 8" subs in an ideal box (be it ported or sealed or 4th order) will rip the s**t out of other 15" subs in an ideal box. BUT the majority of 15" subs will be deeper than the majority of 8" subs. I'd have a Crystal COMP8 over pretty much any 15" any day (XXX15 excluded!!). The box would be smaller, it would be easier to install etc... and with 500w RMS running through it, it would hurt on a 40hz tone. You could prolly wire these fookers up to the mains and they'd still be loving it!
