Hi, newbie here (both to the forum, and in owning a car!! )

I am currently in the middle of changing my blaupunkt radio for a pioneer model. I have got so far, but I just cannot get the wiring harness out of blaupunkt! I scrolled through so many pages of the internet, and am no closer to working out if i just need to yank it out (my poor sore fingers) or if there's a trick I'm missing.

Can anyone explain (I literally have 0 car experience, so layman's terms would be good (y))??

Thank you!!

Hi, Welcome to the FF.

Blaupunkt wiring connectors are usually similar to those in picture below. The clips on the left of the picture are locking clips and need to be pushed in towards the connector to release them. Pull the connector out while holding the clip in.

So update:

My car had to go to the garage today (finally I can drive it!!) so I got them to take out my radio wiring harness at the same time! So I get home very excited that I can finally put my new radio in, and guess what! It doesn't fit!!! ? the hole is a couple of mm too small. I can't imagine other radios being smaller as they seem to be in only a few particular sizes, so I can't work out what's going on. Guess it's time to go back to Amazon!

You have to remove the original cage, and use the one that comes with the new radio. Otherwise, should be a standard DIN size.

I can't see any original cage? The only thing there is, is a metal cage but it looks attached to the car/gap the radio is in. I have managed to get the cage off the new radio, which means it now fits in the gap, but I'm worried that it'll just fall out as it's not as long as my old one.

All the videos showed this being so simple!!

Would also be helpful if you told us which model we're dealing with.

Original cage will need to come out, unless its securing holes for the radio are the same as the Blaupunkt original. They are often held in by a screw in the centre at the back, in the dark depths, so peer in with a torch. Might be a hex key rather than a pozi screw. Might also be some screws at the front, or just bent tangs along the edges. New radio should have had some instructions, which might help understand the original.

Tell us where you are. Someone might be near enough to pop around and point and advise. Other forums might point and laugh, but we generally don't do that!

Thanks. Can't seem to quote more than one person when I'm accessing this on my phone, so apologies for that!

Yes Eklipze3k, that is me!

I will grab pictures when I get home from work later. Also waiting for an adapter for the aerial as I didn't realise but it's slightly different on the new radio.
The new radio is Pioneer MVH-190UB Digital Car Stereo with RDS Tuner, USB and Aux-In. The manual talks about installing the new radio either with the cage they supply or the original one in the car. But I haven't had a chance to have a proper deep look.

Based on previous posts, 2007 Panda Active in Thanet :)

Was original radio a single DIN, or the double DIN? Double-DIN cage from mine was held in by a large hex socket screw at the back, and four screws at the front. Despite being Blaupunkt, would not take an aftermarket Blaupunkt unit, had to remove cage and fit the one from the 'new' radio.

I believe it was a single din. I'm really not a car fanatic, but that's the size it seems to be. It has a little shelf bit built in above it?

That's the single din then, I'm not too familiar with the Panda specifically, but you usually have to replace the factory surround (fascia) with an aftermarket one to accommodate aftermarket radios - something like this.

Single DIN original fitment should accept any single DIN aftermarket replacement, without the need for a new fascia. But, each radio will need its own cage, as the location holes for the locking tangs all seem to be different.

Need to identify how the original cage is held in, then remove it and replace with the new one for the new radio.
As it is a 2007 Panda, it will also need a CANbus adaptor, or an ignition feed from somewhere else. Do not connect the Canbus wires directly to the aftermarket radio.

So I've finally remembered to take pictures!!

I've got what I work out is a canbus adapter with my new radio, I presume I plug in the wires from my car, into that and the other end goes in my radio? I now have a radio antenna adapter so I can do that. It's just the cage which is confusing me now

IT'S IN! AND IT WORKS!! Turns out all the original cage needed was a tug and wiggle as it wasn't screwed in or tags down.

Hopefully all the rest is OK and my car won't go down in flames... ?

So I'm having a little trouble keeping the black rim (to neaten it up) on, but nothing too horrendous. And it doesn't want to connect to my phone using USB, so I'm sure rearing an aux cable as I type.

But apart from that, all seems well!

Thank everyone for you help!!
