Hi all,

I'm looking to change the headunit in my punto 188 to an aftermarket one. But before doing so, I'd like to ask you guys what I should be seaching for?
I know that the car contains 4 speakers of 45 watt and a sub of 100watt (read the manual), but does that mean that I have to find a unit which provides 280 watt? I was looking at a JVC unit, which had an output of 4x50 watt, and a sub out, but do I then need an amplifier? Im rather confused, so if you have any suggestions or advice, please share
My budget is around 100 bucks.

The standard sub can't be run from an aftermarket headunit without a lot of faff, so you can discount that from your calculations.
So basically, look for a headunit with 4x50 unless you are planning to also upgrade the speakers. If you get one with an RCA or sub out you can connect an aftermarket subwoofer, using a separate amplifier.

Ahh I see, thank you for explaining! But if I buy an amplifier, isn't it possible to connect it to the sub already in the car? I am rather fond of the sound as it is

Not without some mucking about. The connections on the Fiat sub are non-standard, so it's not just plug and play. Many have tried and failed to get them to work with aftermarket headunits/amplifiers.
