I used the "U" shaped keys... jabbed them in and was able to pull out the left side of the head unit but the right side is stuck...

no amount of jiggling, variation of jiggling, prodding, lifting, leveraging etc is getting the right side to come out...

so...

i was able to look behind the fascia on left side as it does come out and it looks like the actual stereo has a removable faceplate that is stuck to fascia surround - it is like a shell that wraps around the head unit at the top of dashboard on qubo and i could see the box for the headunit in the sort of metal cage type thing and i reckon i could just rip the right side off to get access to screws and tabs etc to take out the meat of the head unit so to speak...

my question is will this activate some sort of theft protection system disabling the car or electrical system etc in any way? I have no use for the stock radio so will throw it away

also, will new double din head unit has a similar cage type thing that it came with... does that new double din cage get tabbed in or screwed to the base of the internal guts of dashboard then i connect the plugs and slide it into the cage so it locks in then i put the new double din fascia and fascia top on the dashboard?
