I have a 2002 Punto Sporting with the standard MID tape player. Got hold of a Mk3 CD/MP3 headunit, from Fiat, but I cannot get it to communicate with the ECU - it will only display "CANCHECK"

The wiring was slightly different, and looking at the sticker on the tape player there were wires marked "CAN H" and "CAN L". The tape player won't work without these connected, so I assumed they need to connect to "CAN A" and "CAN B" on the new unit, but this still doesn't work.

Anyone else tried fitting one of these and had any success?

Hello

Me too with the same problem: installed a 2005 Blaupunkt CDMP3 unit in my 2002 Punto, only to get this CANCHECK message.

Yes I have found clues that it CAN be done: one has to remove a microchip from the head unit to disable the feature of the radio communicating with the car.

I am sure of this. In my country, many people buy 2nd hand cars from Japan and the UK. Most cars come with their radios locked and in fact by having such a chip removed, enables the unit to work properly.

Blaupunkt have a similar system cause I have been researching this.

Now can anyone proceed on this clue and tell me which microchip to remove?
