Hi

I'm thinking of installing some sound deadening in my Stilo. There's an annoying rattle from the rear left, which stops if I press hard on the cover panel. So I don't think there's anything wrong with the speaker itself.

Firstly does anyone think sound deadening will help, and if so. I found this on the web http://www.bodyshopwarehouse.co.uk/shop/shop.asp?prodid=2657
which seems quite a bit cheaper than the usual dynamat stuff. Any opinions as to whether it's any good.

Thanx in advance

You mentioned that your car rattles. If u have actual rattles, thats because u have 2 solid objects coming into contact with each other. Sound deadening wont actually help stop rattles. What it does stop is the resonance of panels, when theyre vibrating and making there own sound.

Ive seen the stuff before that youve found and im not sure how good it is, but it seems like it would do the job well.

Hope this helps

As chris rightly said, sound deadening wont stop the rattle - however it will reduce the severity of the rattle by stopping the vibration carrying through the surrounding panel.

Sound deadening is pretty much all the same - they stop panels from producing noise from vibrating panels. However, the effectiveness of them doing that is the difference between some of the high priced stuff and the bargain basement stuff :)

Id go for some sound deading personally - it may not solve this problem - but you will notice much clearer music reprocussion especially at higher volume levels, and reduced road noise.

I didn't explain too clearly.

Although I said rattle, it only happens when certain bass lines are played.
So I suppose a vibration is a better description. Therefore it sounds like sound deadening may well solve it.

I'll order some soon and see how I get on. I'm not relishing pulling the cover panels off, I understand they have these clip which tend to break (may end up making the problem worse).

Thanks for the replies.

Im not sure if the clips in stilos are different to other Fiats, but you can buy new clips from fiat very cheaply.
