Anyone had any problems with radio reception? I have a Stilo with Connect Nav+ and the reception is terrible. This is especially on local radio and bearable on BBC R1, BBC R2, etc.

Has anyone else had this? Any known solutions?

Yes me, It also occurs on the standard radio in a Stilo as I had a car on loan while mine was being serviced. So it is not related to the SatNav which I thought it may have been.

It appears to be worse near power lines no the 33Kv pylons but not the 11kv and sometimes near public lighting.
I have brought this to the attention of the dealer but they are none the wiser. I have had my system changed once before and it is being changed again.(faulty CD)
I asked Fiat direct and they said it may require a new aerial.

Now I think I know more about it than they do;......

I am a Radio Ham and I lecture City and Guilds course on the subject.
I have 25 experiance on the subject and related interferance and reception issues.

How did you get on with the manual I sent you.

I think you have my number if you need more info.

Hey Ham

The manual was cool thanks.

Spoke to my dealer this morning and he just said that all radios were bad in Hertford. He did then say he would ask Fiat next time he spoke to them.

Had another couple of weird one's with the head unit recently - Horrible crackling when listening to a CD so I couldn't hear the music and the volume control stopped working. These didn't happen at the same time but stopping and starting the engine sorted it both times.

Guess I'll keep an eye on it and book it in if it does it again......

Take it easy

Hi All

The instructions below describe how to access a few in-built diagnostic tests the Visteon Stereo's have in-built:

1. Turn the Stereo ON
2. Press buttons "3" and "6" together for a few seconds, until a pitch note is heard on the speakers.

Now you're in test mode, here are the tests you can do:

A. SPEAKER TEST - Pressing the ">>" button will test all the (8) speakers the car has - 4 speakers, 4 tweeters. Once finsihed, it will exit the test mode, and you'll have to go back in (above).

B. SIGNAL STRENGTH - Whilst in test mode (with the pitch note heard), press button "3" again. An indication of the intensity of the radio signal the tuner is receiving is displayed as a measure of voltage (e.g. SIGNAL STRENGTH 1.6V). My averages are 2V-3V.

C. SHORT & OPEN CIRCUITS - Whilst in test mode (with the pitch note heard), press button "6" again. Check that the words "SHORT CIRCUIT - OK" appears (i.e. no problems).

D. PROCESSOR & MODULES COMMS TEST - Whilst in test mode (with the pitch note heard), press button "1". "COMMS TEST - PASS" should appear.

E. CHECKSUM (internal EEPROM) TEST - Whilst in test mode (with the pitch note heard), press button "4". "CHECKSUM - PASS" should appear.

F. DISPLAY OPERATION TEST - Whilst in test mode (with the pitch note heard), press button "5". All the pixels on the display should appear.

To exit the diagnostic test, turn the stereo off normally.

Hope this helps in some way.

Thanks for the info I will try it out :)

I have pressed buttons 3 and 6 (Radio sttion selection)

I get a single tone and then it goes back to the radio station.

I Have SatNav+.

Does this make any differnce.

Can confirm that the radio reception in my Stilo isn't fantastic either, quite terrible when I go under bridges, car parks might as well turn it off or play the CD. Can't wait to install my own head unit as never had any issue's like this with the head unit I'm gonna put in :(

Stilo Dynamic 1.8 16v (Metalic Black, side skirts, rear spoiler and 17" wheels)

I've got ConnectNav+ so I'm not real keen to replace the head unit. Anyone know if you can get aftermarket signal/aerial boosters that might help?
